A flat is a scheduling problem before it is a mechanical one. The tire will be dealt with either way; the question is what the rest of your day looks like while that happens. This page is about that, and about what we can and cannot fix when we get to the car.
If the car is stopped in a live traffic lane, stop reading and call for a tow. We come to a fixed address where the car is parked, at home or at work. That is a different service from roadside rescue and pretending otherwise gets people hurt.
Why losing the car for an afternoon costs more here than the repair does
Chattanooga is a car city with essentially no fallback. ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates for the City of Chattanooga: 73.6 percent of commuters drive alone, 8.8 percent carpool, 2.2 percent walk or cycle, 13.6 percent work at home, and 0.9 percent commute by public transport.
Now look at how many cars a household has. Of the city's 79,084 occupied housing units, 8.6 percent have no vehicle at all, 38.1 percent have exactly one, 35.7 percent have two and 17.6 percent have three or more. One-car households are the largest single group in the city, at roughly 30,131 of them (DERIVED: 38.1 percent of 79,084 occupied units; the ACS vehicle table uses a slightly different household universe, so read the count as approximate).
A household with one car and a 0.9 percent transit share cannot surrender that car for half a day and simply get on with things. That is the argument for having the tire dealt with where the car already is.
Here is the honest counter-argument, which most mobile tire companies will not print. Chattanooga's mean commute is 18.5 minutes in the city (DERIVED from the ACS aggregate travel time over the 89,903 workers reported, less those who worked at home), against 22.1 minutes for Hamilton County and 24.1 across the Chattanooga TN-GA metro. Short trips. In a metro where a round trip to a tire shop eats an hour, the time-saving case for mobile fitting is overwhelming. Here it is weaker, and we would rather say so. The case for us in this city rests on the supply gap, the terrain and the fact that you get a number before anyone is dispatched, not on a claim that we are saving you an hour you were never going to spend.
The spread inside the city is wide, too, and it is worth knowing which end you are at. Across the fourteen ZIP Code Tabulation Areas profiled in our Chattanooga research, the no-vehicle share runs from 2.3 percent in St Elmo (37409) to 37.2 percent downtown (37402), and the drive-alone share from 60.5 percent in Highland Park (37404) to 81.0 percent in Lookout Valley (37419). Ranking population for both of those is those fourteen ZCTAs and no others.
First, what to do in the ten minutes after you find it
- Do not drive on it flat if you can avoid it. A tire run flat destroys its own sidewall, and sidewall damage is not repairable under any standard. A repairable puncture can become a replacement in under a mile.
- Leave the nail or screw where it is if there is one visible. It is doing a passable job of plugging the hole, and pulling it out buys you nothing except a faster deflation. A nail in the tire covers that case on its own.
- Check where the car is standing before you call anybody, including us. See below.
- If there is a spare, know what kind it is. A temporary spare has its own speed and distance limits, and in a city with the grades this one has, that matters. How far you can drive on a donut and does my car even have a spare cover it, and plenty of recent cars do not have one at all: flat tire with no spare.
Whether it can be repaired at all
The standard is the US Tire Manufacturers Association's, not ours, and it comes down to four things.
The damage must be in the tread area, not the sidewall or the shoulder. The hole must be no larger than a quarter of an inch. The tire must come off the wheel so the inner liner can be inspected, because a tire that looks perfect outside can be shredded inside. And the repair is a plug and a patch together, fitted from the inside.
That is why a proper repair takes a van and a machine rather than five minutes at the kerb, and it is also why we charge for the inspection even when the answer is no. Establishing whether a tire can be saved means getting to the car, taking the wheel off and the tire off the rim. That work happens whichever way the answer goes.
Where the car is standing decides whether we can help today
Mobile fitting needs ground to work on. Tire Rack states the industry bar in writing: "We require a flat, paved surface with 6 feet of clearance around your vehicle along with enough space for our installation van. A minimum of 10 feet of vertical clearance is also required."
In Hamilton County that is a live question rather than a formality. The City of Chattanooga's open data hub publishes a county slope inventory; summed over every polygon at the 15 percent threshold it covers 122,418 acres, which against the county's land area of 542.164 square miles is 35.3 percent of the county (DERIVED: 122,418 divided by 640 gives 191.3 square miles; 191.3 divided by 542.164 gives 35.3 percent).
What we need is level, paved, legal ground with room to work at one corner of the car. Not the whole driveway, one corner. Tell us what you have when you book, and if it turns out not to be workable when we arrive, that visit is not charged. Steep driveways and tight spaces is the long version, and a flat in the driveway and a flat at work cover the two commonest cases.
Repair or replace, and the thing that usually decides it
A repair costs a fraction of a tire, so the real question is whether you were close to buying tires anyway. In a lot of states the answer is handed to you by an inspection sticker. Not here.
Chapter 9 of Title 55 of the Tennessee Code, which is where Tennessee puts its vehicle equipment standards, contains exactly two tire sections and neither sets a tread depth. Six miles south, Georgia's O.C.G.A. 40-8-74(e)(1) requires "not less than 2/32 inch tread measurable in all major grooves". Same tire, two rules, and the full comparison is here.
Because nobody in Hamilton County is scheduled to measure your tread, we do it at every visit and tell you the number whether or not you buy anything. When to replace your tires covers where the line falls, repair or replace covers the call itself, and two tires or four covers what happens if one is finished and the others are not.
Our price: $145 for the first tire
A mobile puncture repair on one tire is $145, and $50 for each additional tire in the same visit. That is the price, not an estimate and not a starting figure. It covers getting to the car, the wheel off, the tire demounted and inspected from the inside, a plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remounting, rebalancing, a TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, and the wheel back on. There is no separate call-out fee; the visit is inside the price rather than added to it.
If the tire cannot be repaired, the inspection is charged and the repair is not, and we tell you before you decide anything about replacing it.
For context on the alternative, the cheapest four-tire fitting total published in the Tire Rack directory for ZIP 37421 on 2026-09-20 is $100.00, at Fix A Flat Tire Company on Lee Highway, inside the City of Chattanooga — and that is a fixed shop, for fitting only, on Tire Rack's own default job, a 2020 Toyota RAV4 AWD LE on 225/65R17. Ranking population for "cheapest": the twelve installers that directory lists. What tire repair costs in Chattanooga has all twelve, with the municipality each one sits in and the tax that goes on top.
Where to go next
Mobile tire repair in Chattanooga covers the visit and who else operates here, a nail in the tire covers the commonest cause, a slow leak covers the one with no obvious cause, who is available now covers the hours we could find, pothole damage covers impact rather than puncture, and our Chattanooga service area covers where we come.
Nationally: how it works, our pricing, same-day service, mobile tire repair as a service and how to prepare for a mobile visit.
Questions people ask
- Can you come today? Put the address and the vehicle into the booking flow and it shows the next real window and the price together. If nothing is open today you see that rather than being told somebody will call.
- Should I pull the nail out? No. It is slowing the leak. Leave it and tell us it is there.
- Can I drive on it to a shop? Running a tire flat wrecks the sidewall, and sidewall damage cannot be repaired under the tire industry standard. If it will hold air to a safe stopping place, fine; otherwise do not.
- Why does mobile matter in a city with an 18.5-minute commute? Less than it does in a sprawling metro, and we would rather say so. In Chattanooga the stronger arguments are that 38.1 percent of households have exactly one car, transit carries 0.9 percent of commuters, and no local business publishes a mobile tire price at all.
- Do you do emergency roadside? No. We come to a fixed address where the car is parked. A car stopped in traffic needs a tow.
- Do you fit tires I bought elsewhere? No. We supply the tires we fit, so one business answers for both the tire and the work.
