What tire repair costs in Chattanooga

Two halves to this. The fixed-shop prices in this market are unusually public, because Tire Rack publishes an itemised rate card for every installer it recommends here. The mobile prices are not public at all, because no business operating in Chattanooga publishes one.

So this page does what it can: it shows you the twelve published local rate cards, it shows you which municipality each one covers, it sets out how a Tennessee tire invoice is actually built — which is genuinely different from Texas or Georgia — and it says plainly where the evidence runs out.

Start with the two Tennessee lines a national price page will get wrong

Tennessee taxes the labour on your car. Department of Revenue guidance SUT-22, "Sales Price - Charges for Labor", last updated 27 March 2025: "If the labor service is performed on real property, the charge for labor is not subject to sales tax... A charge for labor performed on tangible personal property (e.g., car repair, lawn mower repair, etc.) is subject to sales tax." The reference given is Tenn. Code Ann. section 67-6-102(85), and car repair is named in the guidance itself.

That is the opposite of Texas, where the Comptroller states that the labour to repair or replace a tire is not taxable. A fitting fee, a mount-and-balance line and a service call are all inside the tax base in Chattanooga and none of them is in Dallas. Any price page that reuses a Texas tax sentence in Tennessee is wrong about your invoice.

Tennessee charges a statutory fee on every new tire, and then taxes the fee. Guidance OTF-6: sales of new tires for use on motor vehicles used on streets or highways "are subject to a pre-disposal fee in the amount of $1.35 per tire. The tax is imposed on the business exercising the privilege of making retail sales of new tires in Tennessee." References given are Tenn. Code Ann. sections 67-4-1601 through 67-4-1612.

And guidance OTF-13: "The tire pre-disposal fee is a privilege fee imposed on each dealer exercising the privilege of making sales of new tires in Tennessee. If the dealer chooses to pass the fee on to the retail customer, sales tax will be applicable to the fee whether the fee is included in the tire's selling price or separately itemized on the customer's invoice."

So the $1.35 sits inside the sales-tax base. Texas, for contrast, has no state scrap-tire fee at all, which is why a disposal line on a Dallas invoice is a commercial charge and a $1.35 line on a Chattanooga invoice is a statutory one being passed through.

The rate, published in its two parts

We are going to show you this the awkward way, because the tidy way would be a number neither source actually publishes.

• The Tennessee Department of Revenue states: "The sales tax is comprised of two parts, a state portion and a local portion. The general state tax rate is 7%. The local tax rate varies by county and/or city."
• The Hamilton County Clerk's own Sales Tax Rates page states "State sales tax is 7% of the purchase price" and "Local sales tax is 2.25%".

7.00 plus 2.25 is 9.25 percent (DERIVED: the state rate from the Department of Revenue, the local rate from the Hamilton County Clerk, two different pages, both read 2026-09-20**)**. One caveat on that addition worth carrying: the Clerk states its figures in the context of titling a vehicle, where a single-article cap also applies that does not apply to a service invoice. We publish the two parts and the addition rather than quoting 9.25 percent as if either page printed it.

The twelve published local rate cards

Tire Rack's recommended-installer directory for ZIP 37421 lists twelve installers and prints a four-tire installation total for each. Every total below is Tire Rack's own quote for the job its directory defaulted to — a 2020 Toyota RAV4 AWD LE on 225/65R17 Michelin CrossClimate2 — read 2026-09-20. A different size, a low-profile sidewall or a wheel over 20 inches changes several of these cards, so quote the vehicle with the total or the total means nothing.

And check the geography before you use any of them. Five of the twelve are not in the City of Chattanooga.

Seven of the twelve are inside the City of Chattanooga. Three are outside it in Hixson, which is unincorporated Hamilton County rather than the city. Two are in Georgia. That matters because "Chattanooga tire prices" quoted from this directory quietly includes two states and at least three municipalities.

Two statements about the ends of that table, with the ranking population named: the cheapest total of the twelve installers Tire Rack lists for ZIP 37421 is $100.00 at Fix A Flat, inside the city, and the dearest is $216.00 at Sexton's, in Ringgold, Georgia. A $116 difference on the same four tires, across a state line, in one directory.

What is inside those totals

Read from each installer's own "Pricing Details & Premium Services" panel on 2026-09-20. A few lines here are worth knowing before you agree to anything.

• Discount Tire, identical at all three of its locations in this set: mount and balance $25.00 a wheel at 10 to 18 inches, $28.00 at 19 to 30 inches, $41.00 at 17.5 and 19.5 inches; road force balance free; rubber valve stems free; disposal $4.00; run-flat service free; TPMS rebuild kit free. It cannot install 15.5, 16.5 or 22.5 inch tires, and it is EV qualified.
• Firestone, at all three of its locations here: $23.00 a tire at every aspect ratio, free stems, $5.00 disposal, $5.00 TPMS rebuild kit, and a shop fee of 10 percent of the install cost, charged per order. That fee is why Firestone's total is the same $145.20 at all three of its addresses and why it reconciles exactly: four tires at $23.00 is $92.00, plus $20.00 of disposal, plus $20.00 of TPMS rebuild kits, is $132.00, plus a 10 percent shop fee of $13.20, is $145.20 (DERIVED from Firestone's own published line items, and it matches Tire Rack's printed total to the cent).
• Tire World charges $40.00 a tire on a 0-35 series sidewall but $20.00 on 40-45, 50-55 and 60-plus. A low-profile wheel costs exactly twice as much to fit there as an ordinary crossover tire.
• Pep Boys is $27.50 a tire at every aspect ratio with free disposal. Fix A Flat is $25.00 to 18 inches, $28.00 above, with free disposal and a free TPMS rebuild kit. Quality Tire is $40.00 a tire to 20 inches and up to $60.00 on odd sizes, with a $40.00 package installation line. Precision Tune is $25.00 a tire with a $15.00 package installation line and a $14.95 TPMS rebuild. Sexton's, in Georgia, is $40.00 a tire with an $18.75 package installation line.

None of those is a repair price. Not one of the twelve publishes one, because they are fitting rate cards.

Now the part with no numbers in it

There is no published mobile tire price in Chattanooga. Not from a local business, not from a national one.

• Tire Rack's own mobile van programme does not reach here. Its ZIP coverage endpoint returns an empty string for 37402, 37405, 37412, 37421 and Fort Oglethorpe 30742. The same endpoint returns "DTMI" for Dallas 75206 and "TRMI" for Atlanta 30306. Its advertised national price, "On-site tire installation prices start at just $40 a tire", is available to nobody in this market.
• Discount Tire's mobile programme does not either. Its own published list runs to 84 stores across exactly eight states — Arizona 19, Florida 4, Illinois 14, Minnesota 3, Missouri 2, North Carolina 1, South Carolina 2, Texas 39 — with none in Tennessee and none in Georgia. Its advertised "as low as $50 extra" is likewise unavailable here, and it states outright: "We don't offer mobile tire repair at this time."
• The one business we found that plainly does mobile passenger-car tire work in Chattanooga publishes nothing at all — no website, no price, and an unclaimed listing with no street address.

And two tables that look like local prices, which this site will not quote as Chattanooga figures:

A national dispatch brand publishes a page headed with Chattanooga's name and an eight-row price table. We tested it. The identical eight rows, to the dollar, appear on that brand's Pittsburgh page and on its Savannah page. It is national boilerplate with a city name substituted, and the page itself calls the figures an average market rate rather than its own charges.

A second national brand does publish a genuine mobile puncture price. A full-text read of its site on 2026-09-20 returns zero occurrences of the word "Chattanooga". It is a real rate belonging to a dispatch brand with no Chattanooga page.

A price that is real somewhere else is not a price in this metro. That is the whole reason our number is on the page instead of behind a phone call.

Our price: $145 for the first tire

A mobile puncture repair on one tire is $145, and $50 for each additional tire in the same visit. That is the price, not an estimate and not a starting figure.

It covers getting to the car, the wheel off, the tire demounted and inspected from the inside, a plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remounting, rebalancing, a TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, and the wheel back on.

There is no separate call-out fee. The visit is inside the price rather than added afterwards. If we arrive and the space is not safe to work in, that visit is not charged at all.

If the tire cannot be repaired, the inspection is charged and the repair is not. Establishing whether a tire can be saved means travelling to the car, taking the wheel off and the tire off the rim, and that work happens whichever way the answer goes. We tell you the result before you decide anything about replacing it.

On a replacement rather than a repair, expect the two Tennessee lines above: $1.35 a new tire under OTF-6, and sales tax that reaches the labour under SUT-22 and reaches the $1.35 itself under OTF-13.

The question that actually decides the bill

A repair costs a fraction of a tire, so what really matters is whether you were close to replacing anyway. In most states an inspection answers that for you. Chapter 9 of Title 55 of the Tennessee Code, where Tennessee puts its vehicle equipment standards, contains exactly two tire sections and neither sets a tread depth — and the one check tied to a Hamilton County registration, the emissions test, ended on 13 January 2022 and never looked at a tire anyway.

Six miles south, Georgia does set a figure: 2/32 inch measurable in all major grooves under O.C.G.A. 40-8-74(e)(1). The two rules, side by side, is the page for that. Because nobody here is scheduled to measure, we measure at every visit and hand you the number.
