Seasonal tire changeover

Twice a year, in a winter climate, you swap between a winter set and a summer or all-season set. We can do that swap at your home instead of you carrying wheels into a shop. This page explains the two ways people store their seasonal sets and which metros we currently cover.

Mounted sets versus loose tires

• Mounted wheel sets. Your winter tires are already bolted onto their own set of wheels. The visit is a straightforward swap: off with one set, on with the other, torque the lug nuts, and check pressure. This is typically the faster of the two jobs because nothing needs to be remounted.
• Loose tires. You store the winter tires without their own wheels, so each changeover means dismounting the current tires from the wheels and mounting the other set in their place, then balancing them. This takes longer and uses the same equipment as a standard tire replacement, because it is functionally the same mounting and balancing work, just with tires you already own.

This scope applies in winter metros: Boise ID, Boston MA, Chicago IL, Columbus OH, Denver CO, Detroit MI, Indianapolis IN, Minneapolis MN, New York NY, Philadelphia PA, and Pittsburgh PA. Coverage inside a winter metro still depends on that metro's current status; check /locations before you request, since some of these metros are request-only while we confirm local supply.

What we ask before we quote

• Mounted sets or loose tires
• Vehicle and current tire size
• Whether you want the old (off) set stored, disposed of, or you already have a place for them
• TPMS: whether your wheels carry separate sensors for each set

What we do not do

We do not store your off-season tires between visits, sell you a second set if you do not already have one (that is a standard replacement, not a changeover), or service commercial vehicles under this scope.

Questions people ask {#faq}

• Do you balance the tires every time? Mounted sets are rebalanced only if the technician finds a reason to; loose-tire swaps are balanced as part of the mount, the same as a new tire.
• Can you check tread depth on my off-season set while you are there? Yes, we will note it; see When to replace tires for what the numbers mean.
• What if my TPMS sensors are only on one set of wheels? Tell us in the request; the technician can reset or flag the dashboard warning appropriately.
• Is a changeover available outside winter metros? Not as a listed scope today; request it and we will tell you honestly if we cannot serve you.
