Start with the tire

What do you need?

How many tires?

On the sidewall, or the sticker in the driver door jamb. Copy it exactly.

No account, no callback. The next screen asks about your car, then shows the price.

New tires need balancing when mounted. Alignment is a different check: it concerns the wheel and suspension angles, not weight distribution in the tire-and-wheel assembly. Ask for an alignment assessment when fitting new tires, especially if the old tires wore unevenly or the vehicle pulls. An alignment adjustment should follow a measurement and diagnosis, not be assumed to be included in mobile installation.

Michelin explains the distinction and recommends checking alignment with new tires. Wheel alignment and balancing, checked September 19, 2026.

Which job are you being quoted?

Item Question to put on the work order Useful proof to request
Mounting Are the selected tires being fitted to my existing wheels? Exact tire and wheel details
Balancing Is each new tire-and-wheel assembly balanced? Confirmation on the installation invoice
Alignment inspection Are the wheel angles measured against this vehicle's specification? Before measurements
Alignment adjustment Which measurements require adjustment? Before-and-after report
Other repairs Is a damaged or worn component preventing correct alignment? Diagnosis and a separate authorization

This is a purchase checklist, not a diagnostic chart. A symptom alone cannot prove which repair is needed.

What to tell the installer before the old tires disappear

Photograph the wear on each tire and label its original wheel position. Record whether the steering wheel was off-center, the car pulled, or vibration appeared at a particular speed. Note recent curb or pothole impacts without declaring that they caused the problem.

Do not ask the technician to throw away the old set before discussing a wear concern. The pattern can be useful evidence. Ask whether the installation appointment should follow a separate mechanical inspection.

Use a short symptom log

Observation Your record
Symptom started before or after the tire change Date and sequence
Felt in steering wheel, seat, or whole vehicle Describe without guessing a cause
Vehicle speed or braking condition Record only if already observed safely
Old tire with unusual wear Wheel position and photo
Recent impact, repair, or wheel change Date and work performed
Warning lights Exact light and when it appeared

Do not conduct a high-speed test to fill the table. If handling is unsafe, stop using the vehicle and arrange professional help.

Can the mobile technician do alignment too?

Do not assume so. A mobile mounting-and-balancing appointment does not establish that alignment equipment or the service is included. Ask who will perform the alignment assessment, where, and whether it requires a second booking.

HopTire should not be treated as offering alignment unless the written job scope explicitly confirms it. There is no mobile alignment promise on this page.

If the car vibrates after installation

Contact the installer and describe the timing. Do not buy alignment solely because “something feels different.” Ask the technician to determine the cause and the next safe action. Keep the invoice and the symptom log together.

Our after-installation checklist covers the handover and follow-up record. Our quote checker keeps separately authorized inspection or adjustment costs visible.

The result you want is not a checked box marked “alignment.” It is a documented answer about whether this vehicle needs adjustment and who is responsible for the next step.
