Mobile tire service on the Southside and in Jefferson Heights

The Southside has the newest housing of the fourteen Chattanooga ZIP areas we profiled: the median unit in ZIP 37408 falls in the 2010 to 2019 build band. It also has the highest work-from-home share of the fourteen, 24.3% of working residents, against 13.6% across the city. This is Main Street, the Chattanooga Choo Choo and the new-build apartment belt south of downtown, 3,502 people in 1,781 occupied units.

New buildings mean structured parking, and headroom

52.4% of units in 37408 are in buildings of twenty or more, against 14.6% citywide, and 71.3% are rented. One-unit detached houses are 18.6%, against 57.6% for the city. That is a proxy for private parking, not a count; the Census has no driveway variable.

So the car is usually in a building's lot or garage, and the published bar for a mobile fitter is specific about both. Tire Rack's requirement is "a flat, paved surface with 6 feet of clearance around your vehicle along with enough space for our installation van", plus "A minimum of 10 feet of vertical clearance". An open surface lot can meet that. A covered deck has to clear ten feet. Whether we may work on a building's property at all is the owner's call: ask management first, and tell us their answer at booking.

The ground is valley floor. The USGS 1-metre elevation at the ZIP's published Census internal point is 668 feet, one point and not a slope. Flat ground is the one thing the Southside makes easy.

A car that sits through a Chattanooga summer

With a quarter of workers at home and a mean commute of 16.2 minutes (derived from the Census aggregate travel-time table), many cars here spend most of the week parked. In summer they sit in real heat. NOAA's 1991-2020 normals at Lovell Field give 47.7 days a year at or above 90F and 1.0 at or above 100F. In 2026, up to 17 September, the station had already recorded 70 days at or above 90F and 6 at or above 100F.

A tire that sits does not wear its tread. It loses pressure slowly, and on a car that is rarely driven nobody notices until the morning it is needed. Check pressure cold, against the door placard, not the number on the sidewall: your tire pressure placard and a tire losing air with no nail.

The City of Chattanooga's pothole feed placed 377 requests inside 37408 from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2023. The feed ends on 6 October 2024, so there is no newer count, and we will not describe this year's potholes from it.

What Tennessee adds to a tire bill

Three published rules decide what a Chattanooga tire invoice carries.

The Department of Revenue says "The general state tax rate is 7%" and that the local rate varies by county and city. The Hamilton County Clerk's page gives the local rate as 2.25%. Added together that is 9.25% (derived; the two parts come from two different pages, and the Clerk's page is about titling a vehicle, so treat the total as our arithmetic, not a published rate).

The labour is taxed too. The Department's guidance says "A charge for labor performed on tangible personal property (e.g., car repair, lawn mower repair, etc.) is subject to sales tax."

And every new tire sold in Tennessee carries a $1.35 pre-disposal fee. If the seller passes it on, the Department says "sales tax will be applicable to the fee whether the fee is included in the tire's selling price or separately itemized". What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. Fitting tires bought elsewhere was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation on its own, no balancing on its own, no brakes, no emergency roadside. No work on a deck below ten feet of clearance.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each extra tire on the same visit, subject to inspection on site. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, plug and patch to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where supported, refit. Not repairable, no repair charge. Fitting new tires we supply is $400 a visit for one to four tires, mounting, balancing and disposal included; the tires are priced on top. No separate call-out fee.
