Four miles separate Mar Vista from Venice, and on the city's own road-condition data they are at opposite ends of Los Angeles.
In StreetsLA's June 2026 street inventory the Mar Vista neighbourhood council carries 87.7 centreline miles, of which 9.5 are rated Poor, 66.8 Good and 11.5 Fair. That is 10.8% Poor, rank 94 of the 100 named neighbourhood councils. Venice, over the hill toward the water, is 32.2% and rank 6. The citywide figure is 1,266.3 Poor miles out of 6,575.0, or 19.3%.
So this is one of the better-paved parts of the city. Which means the tire work here is almost never about what the street did to the tire.
We supply the tires and fit them where the car is parked, here and across Los Angeles. One price on screen, no call-out fee, no estimate visit.
Good asphalt, short trips, old rubber
31.2% of the 31,631 working residents of 90066 work from home and 55.2% drive alone; 3.3% take public transport. Mean travel time to work is 27.4 minutes, derived from an ACS aggregate of 595,925 travel minutes over the 21,760 workers who did not work at home. Only 5.3% of the 25,279 households keep no vehicle, and 36.1% keep two.
Cars that are owned, kept, and barely driven. Of the 36,037 light-duty vehicles registered in 90066 at 31 December 2025, 67.5% are model year 2020 or older, 40.4% are model year 2015 or older and 25.1% predate 2012. Battery-electric vehicles are 10.5% of the local fleet — 3,768 of 36,037 — against 5.9% of California's 29,658,134 registered light-duty vehicles.
A well-paved street will not save a tire from time. Nothing in California's calendar flags it either: the only recurring test in Los Angeles County is the biennial smog check, and it contains no tire item at all. What you get instead are the failures of a stationary car — a pressure that has drifted down over months, a valve stem that has perished, a tire that reads fine on a gauge and is eight years old.
If the car sits most of the week, check the pressures cold on a weekend morning before you set off rather than after a drive, and set them from the door placard rather than from the number on the sidewall.
The seasonal timing on the Westside is not July
At Los Angeles International, the 1991–2020 NOAA monthly normals for days with a maximum at or above 80F read 2.0 in July, 3.7 in August, 4.5 in September and 4.7 in October. The 90F counts run the same way: 0.1 in July against 0.9 in October.
October, not July, is the warm month on this side of the city. If you are going to look at the tires once a year because of heat, look at them in early autumn rather than at the start of summer.
Where the van works here
39.4% of the 27,045 housing units in 90066 are one-unit detached and 30.5% sit in buildings of five to nineteen — Westside single-family blocks with dingbat apartments between them. That split is the only proxy available for off-street space; the Census has no garage or parking variable and the city publishes no garage count, so nobody can honestly tell you what share of Mar Vista has a usable driveway.
What we need is level, paved, legal ground with clear room to work at one corner of the car. Kerb, driveway or a flat space in a lot all qualify. The common failure on the apartment blocks is a carport with a post exactly where the jack needs to go, so a photo at booking saves everybody a wasted trip.
What this costs against what else is published here
Tire Rack's recommended-installer directory for 90291, the Venice and Playa del Rey list that covers this stretch of the Westside, was read on 2026-09-20. It carried twenty installers, of which two were mobile: Tire Rack's own van at $240.00 and ZipTire Mobile at $229.00, both for four Michelin CrossClimate2 225/65R17 fitted to a 2020 Toyota RAV4 AWD LE, sales tax excluded.
Two things are worth knowing about those numbers. Tire Rack's national mobile page says, verbatim, "On-site tire installation prices start at just $40 a tire"; its Los Angeles rate card charges $60.00 a tire at every sidewall aspect-ratio band, which is 50% above the advertised starting price (DERIVED: 60 divided by 40 is 1.50). And the "$120.00 minimum charge (per visit)" on that card is a floor that binds on a one- or two-tire visit, not a fee added to a four-tire job — four at $60.00 is $240.00 and nothing is added.
The fixed shops in the same list published $110.00 to $240.00 for the identical job. We are not cheaper than a Pep Boys bay and we will not pretend to be. What we sell is the car not having to go anywhere.
What we do not do
We supply the tires we fit. Fitting customer-supplied tires was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation on its own, no balancing on its own, no brakes, no emergency roadside.
Our price
A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each additional tire on the same visit, subject to on-site inspection. No call-out fee. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, repair fitted to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where the car supports it, wheel back on. If the damage is not repairable, we say so on the spot and there is no repair charge.
On a replacement, California's $1.75 per-tire fee appears as its own line on the invoice, because Public Resources Code 42885(d) requires it to be separately stated.
Questions people ask
- My street is fine. Why would I need tires? Because age and pressure are independent of the road: when to replace tires.
- Carport with a centre post. Send a photo; if the corner is blocked we will ask you to move to the kerb.
- Is mobile worth the difference over a shop? The trade is time, not price: mobile vs a tire shop.
- Can I buy the tires online and have you fit them? No, we supply what we fit: buying tires online for mobile install.
- What do I do before you arrive? How to prepare for mobile tire service.
- What about Venice? Covered, and its pavement data is the opposite: Venice.
- And the Valley? Covered: Sherman Oaks.
