The line between the two climates of Los Angeles runs along the ridge above Ventura Boulevard, and Sherman Oaks sits on the hot side of it.

NOAA's 1991–2020 annual normals give Van Nuys Airport, the station that covers this part of the Valley, 148.3 days a year with a maximum at or above 80F, 63.2 days at or above 90F and 7.8 days at or above 100F, with an annual mean maximum of 77.0F. Los Angeles International, twenty miles away inside the same municipal boundary, records 23.3 days at or above 80F, 2.5 at or above 90F, 0.0 at or above 100F and a mean maximum of 69.0F.

Same city, same registration, same insurance. Six times the 80F days, and a 100F count the coast does not have at all. Anyone writing one "Los Angeles" weather sentence is wrong for half the city, and on this side of the hill the heat argument for tires is the real one.

We supply the tires and fit them where the car is parked, here and across Los Angeles. Price up front, no call-out fee.

The district with the worst pavement in the city

Council District 4 covers Sherman Oaks along with Studio City, Los Feliz and the Hollywood Hills. In StreetsLA's June 2026 street inventory it carries 660.4 centreline miles of which 188.4 are rated Poor — 28.5%, which is the highest Poor share of the fifteen council districts and more than six points clear of second place. At the other end, CD 12 in the north-west Valley is both the largest district by mileage and the best paved at 14.5%.

Inside that district, the Sherman Oaks neighbourhood council itself carries 138.6 centreline miles with 29.9 Poor, 83.1 Good and 25.5 Fair — 21.6%, rank 36 of the 100 named neighbourhood councils. Citywide, 1,266.3 of 6,575.0 centreline miles are Poor, or 19.3%.

Whatever is breaking that pavement, it is not frost. The 1991–2020 normal for days with a maximum at or below 32F is 0.0 at all four Los Angeles stations, and Van Nuys Airport averages 0.6 nights a year at or below freezing. We will report the condition and the absence of a freeze cycle, and we will not offer a cause, because we found no source that establishes one.

The highest electric share in our Los Angeles set

Of the 18,016 light-duty vehicles registered in 91403 at 31 December 2025, 2,539 are battery-electric. That is 14.1%, the highest of the eighteen Los Angeles ZIP codes in our research, against 5.9% of California's 29,658,134 registered light-duty vehicles. Another 631 are plug-in hybrids.

The fleet is also young: 57.0% are model year 2020 or older and 16.3% predate 2012, against 72.1% and 29.8% statewide. That is the newest of the seventeen usable ZIP codes in our set.

What follows practically, and what does not. A battery-electric car is heavier than the petrol equivalent and usually runs a lower-profile, higher-load-index tire, so it is worth checking pressures and condition more often than the badge on the dashboard suggests. We are not going to put a percentage or a mileage figure on how much faster the tread goes, because no measurement for a California fleet exists and inventing one would be the easiest lie on this page.

One useful competitive detail: of the three mobile installers in Tire Rack's Los Angeles directory, two charge the same mount-and-balance price at every sidewall aspect ratio, so a 35-series EV tire costs no more to fit than a 60-series. Low-profile is not automatically a surcharge in this market.

Where we can work, on the flat and on the hill

The ZIP is two places. North of Ventura the Valley floor is flat and the job is ordinary. South of Ventura the streets climb into the Santa Monica Mountains, and level ground becomes the constraint. We will not give a gradient number — no per-neighbourhood slope data exists for Los Angeles — but if your street is one of the steep ones, we need the flattest legal spot within a short walk.

36.4% of the 13,045 housing units here are one-unit detached, 21.4% are in buildings of twenty to forty-nine and 14.9% in buildings of fifty or more. That split is the only proxy the Census gives for off-street space, and it is not a driveway count; no such variable exists and we will not manufacture one.

37.6% of the 14,255 working residents work from home and 55.4% drive alone. Mean travel time to work is 31.3 minutes, derived from an ACS aggregate of 278,150 travel minutes over the 8,899 workers who did not work at home. Only 7.5% of the 12,111 households keep no vehicle.

Going up the hill in winter

A Sherman Oaks driver can leave a 75F afternoon and be at a posted chain-control gate above 6,000 feet in under an hour, inside the same county. The live Caltrans District 7 feed, read on 2026-09-20, carried 31 signed chain-control points inside Los Angeles County across SR-2, I-5, SR-14, SR-39 and SR-138, from 1,026 feet at Castaic Junction to 6,804 feet at Kratka Ridge.

That makes one number in the Vehicle Code a live local rule rather than trivia. CVC 27465(b)(3) requires "Six thirty-second (6/32) of an inch tread depth at all points in all major grooves on snow tires used in lieu of tire traction devices in posted tire traction device control areas" — six times the 1/32 that is legal on the same tire on Ventura Boulevard under 27465(b)(1). And under CVC 27460 a four-wheel-drive passenger vehicle running snow-tread tires on all four drive wheels must still carry chains for at least one set of drive wheels.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. Fitting customer-supplied tires was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation on its own, no balancing on its own, no brakes, no emergency roadside.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each additional tire on the same visit, subject to on-site inspection. No call-out fee. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, repair fitted to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, wheel back on. If it cannot be repaired safely we tell you on the spot and there is no repair charge.
