Mobile tire service in Venice

Venice has some of the worst road surface in Los Angeles, and that will surprise anybody who has looked at what a house costs here.

In StreetsLA's June 2026 street inventory, the Venice neighbourhood council carries 84.5 centreline miles of which 27.2 are rated Poor, 45.0 Good and 12.4 Fair. That is 32.2% Poor, rank 6 of the 100 named neighbourhood councils in the city. The citywide figure is 1,266.3 Poor miles out of 6,575.0, or 19.3%.

The worst-paved neighbourhoods in this city are not the poorest ones. Ranks 1, 3 and 6 are Atwater Village at 43.0%, Silver Lake at 38.8% and Venice; two of the six best-paved councils are in San Pedro, at the industrial end of the harbour.

The hottest month on this coast is October

If you are planning anything around heat, the coastal calendar is not the one you have in your head.

At Los Angeles International, the 1991–2020 NOAA monthly normal for days with a maximum at or above 90F reads: July 0.1, August 0.3, September 0.6, October 0.9, November 0.3. October is the peak month by that measure and September is second; July has fewer 90F days than November. The 80F count runs the same way — 4.7 days in October and 4.5 in September against 3.7 in August and 2.0 in July. Across the whole year LAX averages 23.3 days at or above 80F, 2.5 at or above 90F and 0.0 at or above 100F.

Twenty miles inland at Van Nuys Airport the same normals give 148.3 days at or above 80F and 7.8 at or above 100F. Same city, same municipal boundary, a completely different tire argument. Ours here is the coastal one: the marine layer holds until the offshore flow arrives, and the hot weeks on this side of town fall in late September and October.

There is no freeze to balance it. The LAX normal for nights at or below 32F is 0.0, the normal for days with a maximum at or below 32F is 0.0, and annual snowfall is 0.0 inches. Nothing here is a winter problem.

A neighbourhood where the car does almost nothing

44.7% of the 15,993 working residents of 90291 work from home. That is the highest share of the eighteen Los Angeles ZIP codes in our research, ahead of Sherman Oaks at 37.6%. 43.1% drive alone, 6.3% walk or cycle, and 1.8% take public transport. Mean travel time to work is 25.5 minutes, derived from an ACS aggregate of 225,320 travel minutes over the 8,851 workers who did not work at home.

A car that moves twice a week does not wear its tread out. It ages out, and the two failures that follow are the ones we are actually called for: a slow leak that nobody noticed until the morning the car had to go somewhere, and a set of tires with plenty of tread and a date code from a previous decade.

Under 49 CFR 574.5(b)(3) the last four digits of the tire identification number are a date code — two digits for the week, two for the year. And in California age is not merely advisory: 17 CCR 95550(c)(14) defines an "Unsafe Tire" to include a tire unsafe by reason of "tire tread wear, age, tread irregularity, or damage".

Of the 16,344 light-duty vehicles registered in 90291 at 31 December 2025, 65.1% are model year 2020 or older and 24.0% predate 2012. Battery-electric is 12.5% of the local fleet — 2,048 of 16,344 — against 5.9% of California's 29,658,134 registered light-duty vehicles. A heavier car on a lower-profile tire is a reason to check the pressures more often; we are not going to attach a wear rate to it, because no measured one exists.

Walk streets, canals, and where the van can stand

39.3% of the 17,044 housing units here are one-unit detached and 21.8% are in buildings of two to four. That is the only proxy for off-street space that exists — the Census has no garage variable and the city publishes no garage count, so we will not tell you what share of Venice has a driveway.

What we need is level, paved, legal ground with clear room to work at one corner of the car. The specific Venice problem is the walk street and the canal block, where the nearest legal vehicle access may be a street away and the alley behind is barely wider than a car. That is workable if we know in advance; it is a wasted visit if we find out on arrival. Tell us the access at booking.

Then check the sweeping sign. Of 2,036,629 parking citations issued citywide in 2025, 524,709 were for street cleaning — 25.8%, the largest single category by a wide margin. Our van sits in the same posted window your car does, so send us a photo of the sign and we will pick a slot that clears it.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. Fitting customer-supplied tires was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation on its own, no balancing on its own, no brakes, no emergency roadside. Where the only access is a walk street with no vehicle approach within reach of the car, we will say so before you pay.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each additional tire on the same visit, subject to on-site inspection. No call-out fee. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, repair fitted to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, wheel back on. If it is not repairable, we tell you on the spot and you are not charged for a repair.
