In ZIP 37406 the car goes to work every day. Only 4.4% of working residents work from home, the second-lowest share of the fourteen Chattanooga ZIP areas we profiled, behind Alton Park's 3.9%. 75.3% drive alone and 13.5% carpool; 1.2% take public transport. At the same time, 18.3% of households keep no vehicle at all, the third-highest share of the fourteen after Downtown's 37.2% and Alton Park's 32.0%.
This is the neighbourhood north-east of the ridge, either side of Wilcox Boulevard: 13,364 people in 5,263 occupied units over 12.14 square miles. We supply the tires and fit them where the car is parked, here and across Chattanooga. One price up front, no separate call-out fee.
The ground is not flat, and the job needs it to be
East Chattanooga, Avondale and Glenwood are genuinely hilly. We have no slope figure for any Chattanooga neighbourhood and will not print one: the county's slope layer cannot be cut cleanly to a ZIP boundary. What we do have is the USGS 1-metre elevation at this ZIP's published Census internal point, 797 feet, and at Market Street and 8th downtown, 676.5 feet. Those are two points, not a slope, and not an average.
What matters on the day is the ground under the car. Tire Rack's published requirement for a mobile install is "a flat, paved surface with 6 feet of clearance around your vehicle", and we work to the same idea: a car on a hill is moved to level ground before any jack goes under it. If the house sits on a slope, the flat part of the street or a level lot nearby is usually the answer. Steep driveways and a tire job covers the details.
70.4% of the housing units here are one-unit detached houses, against 57.6% across the city, and 47.2% are owner-occupied. That detached share is a proxy for private parking, not a count; nobody publishes driveways, and a detached house on a slope may still have nowhere flat to work.
A car that works every day wears out, rather than ageing out
With so few people at home and so many sharing rides, the cars here cover the city every weekday. That puts tread depth and impact damage ahead of slow leaks on the list of likely problems, which is an argument from the commuting figures, not a measurement of anyone's tires.
The City of Chattanooga's pothole feed placed 1,581 requests inside 37406 from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2023. The feed stops on 6 October 2024; there is no 2025 or 2026 count, and we will not write about this year's potholes from it. Citywide over 2015 to 2023, requests peak in March and bottom out in November. The city's own pavement condition layer, which states no survey date, scores the 2,188.9 miles of street in that layer at a mean PCI of 61.45 out of 100, and 2,110.1 of those miles, 96.4%, are asphalt. Pothole tire damage in Chattanooga covers what a hole does to a tire.
Winter here freezes at night and thaws by lunch
Counting days at Chattanooga Lovell Field where the low fell below 32F and the high rose above it, 1996 to 2025 averaged 46.1 such days a year, and 1,108 of the 1,382 counted, 80.2%, fell in December, January and February. That is our own count on our own definition, from NOAA's daily record, and it is not comparable with any other city's figure, so we will not set it beside one. What it means here is a cold start on a hill with a tire that lost a couple of pounds overnight. Check pressure cold, in the morning, against the door placard: your tire pressure placard.
Tennessee sets no tread depth in its equipment chapter
We read every section of Chapter 9 of Tennessee Code Title 55, where vehicle equipment rules sit, and neither of its two tire sections sets a tread depth. That is a statement about that chapter, not about every Tennessee law. Georgia sets 2/32 of an inch. Tennessee and Georgia tire law sets them side by side, and when to replace tires covers what the number should be in practice.
What we do not do
We supply the tires we fit. Fitting tires bought elsewhere was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation on its own, no balancing on its own, no brakes, no emergency roadside. No jacking on a slope.
Our price
A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each extra tire on the same visit, subject to inspection on site. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, plug and patch to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where supported, refit. Not repairable, no repair charge. Fitting new tires we supply is $400 a visit for one to four tires, mounting, balancing and disposal included; the tires are priced on top. No separate call-out fee.
