3.3% of working residents in ZIP 10025 drive alone to work. That is the lowest drive-alone share of the seventeen New York ZCTAs in our research. 49.7% take public transport, 11.2% walk, 3.9% cycle and 29.1% work at home. 75.4% of households keep no vehicle; 22.4% keep exactly one.

So this is not a volume neighbourhood, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What it is instead is the ZIP the tire trade quotes New York against. When we priced the market on 2026-09-20 the directories we read used 10025 as the Manhattan test address, which means this is the one part of the city where you can see exactly what a mobile fitter charges — and where they are coming from. 93,065 people live here in 41,334 occupied units. We supply the tires and fit them where the car is parked, here and across New York.

Four mobile installers quote this ZIP. None of them lives here

The Tire Rack recommended-installer directory listed twenty installers against 10025 on 2026-09-20, four of them mobile. For the directory's own default job — four Michelin CrossClimate2 in 225/65R17 on a 2020 Toyota RAV4 AWD LE, sales tax excluded — the four itemised quotes were:

Mobile installer Base Quoted total
Warren's Mobile Tire Services Woodhaven, Queens 11421 $215.00
Mobile Tire Shop Brooklyn 11203 $230.00
106ST Mobile Tire Shop II Corona, Queens 11368 $244.00
Tire Pro / Tire Pro-Go Springfield Gardens, Queens 11413 $320.00

Read the shape, not just the total. Warren's charges $25.00 to turn up and $45.00 a tire to fit; Tire Pro charges $120.00 to turn up and $35.00 a tire. Same job, opposite structure. On four tires Warren's comes out $105.00 cheaper than Tire Pro above 62nd Street (derived from the two published totals: 320.00 minus 215.00).

Two things that ZIP tells you about Manhattan. Only two of the twenty installers listed against 10025 have a Manhattan address at all — Autobahn Service Center on Park Avenue at $160.00 and Maria Auxiliadora Tire Shop on Amsterdam Avenue at $273.00 — and six of the twenty are in New Jersey. And on SimpleTire, with the location set to 10025, three of the four nearest local shops offered to an Upper West Side buyer were in Astoria, Queens.

Tire Rack's own national mobile page advertises "On-site tire installation prices start at just $40 a tire". That page was headed "Now in Atlanta!" when we read it: Tire Rack's first-party van operation does not serve New York City. Every mobile option above is an independent third party in its recommended-installer programme.

What that means for a booking on West 96th Street

66.7% of units in 10025 were built in 1939 or earlier and 60.0% sit in buildings of fifty or more, the highest fifty-plus share of the seventeen ZCTAs in our research. One-unit detached housing is 0.6% of the stock and one-unit attached 0.9%, against 9.1% and 7.2% citywide. There is no back lane here.

The only off-street measure anyone publishes is commercial: 31 active NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection "Garage & Parking Lot" licences carry a 10025 address, rank 17 of the 156 ZIP strings that hold at least one, out of 1,761 citywide. That is a count of licensed businesses, not of bays, and it says nothing about private residential parking — the American Community Survey has no such variable and the city publishes no count of it. Treat it as a map of where a paid space can be bought.

What we need is small and it does not bend: level, paved, legal ground with room to work at one corner of the car. A single-level garage bay with headroom for a van is fine. A stacker, a tandem space or a low-clearance ramp is not. On the numbered cross streets between Amsterdam and West End a legal kerb space is usually the answer, and the honest constraint is width, not law.

Two clocks run on a car that is used this lightly

The mean commute here is 32.1 minutes (derived from ACS table B08013 aggregate travel time over workers who did not work at home), and 29.1% of working residents do not commute at all. A garaged Upper West Side car does short trips and long stands, and that produces failures that have nothing to do with mileage: a tire that was fine last month and flat this morning with nothing in it, or a set with plenty of tread and a date code from another decade.

New York's annual inspection catches the first kind of problem only by accident. 15 NYCRR 79.21(c) checks pressure and then forbids the station from failing you for it: pressure is "advisory only, do not reject the vehicle. The customer must be notified in writing." So every driver registered in the state gets one written pressure advisory a year, and nothing happens if they file it. Between those advisories, the door placard is the only number that matters and a slow leak with no nail in sight is the common Manhattan case.

10025 filed 1,021 Street Condition / Pothole requests over 2021 to 2025, rank 85 of the 224 non-null incident ZIPs, and 383 in 2026 to 19 September, rank 65 of 205 — a sharper year here than the five-year rank suggests. A 311 count measures reporting as well as damage, so read it as a signal, not a survey.

The tax line nobody quotes you

Every price in the table above excludes sales tax, and New York taxes more of this job than some states do. Tax Bulletin ST-40 is explicit: "You must collect sales tax on the total charge for parts and labor for the repair services that you provide." Publication 718 puts all five boroughs on a single New York City line at 8 7/8 percent, which is 8.875%. The same invoice in Westchester, outside the cities that publication names separately, carries 8 3/8.

On top of that the state charges a waste tire management and recycling fee of $2.50 per new tire, which must be separately stated on your invoice. It is statutory. A shop with a physical New York retail location may keep twenty-five cents of each one; a van without a shopfront collects the full $2.50 and remits the full $2.50.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. Fitting customer-supplied tires was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation alone, no balancing alone, no brakes, no emergency roadside. If your building's garage has no bay we can legally and safely work in, we will say so before you pay rather than after.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each extra tire on the same visit, subject to on-site inspection, with no separate call-out fee. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, plug and patch to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where the car supports it, refit. If it cannot be repaired safely we say so there and then and you pay nothing for the repair.
