19.4% of housing units in ZIP 10466 are one-unit detached — the highest detached share of the six Bronx and Manhattan ZCTAs in our New York research — with a further 13.4% one-unit attached. Citywide the figures are 9.1% and 7.2%.

57.9% of households here keep at least one vehicle (derived: 100 minus the 42.1% reporting none), and 23.5% keep two or more (derived: 15.6% with two, 6.3% with three, 1.6% with four or more). 34.9% of working residents drive alone and 7.1% carpool, against 21.6% and 4.3% citywide. 39.9% of the 24,930 occupied units are owner-occupied. 71,116 people live at the top of the Bronx, against the Westchester line.

We supply the tires and fit them where the car is parked, here and across New York. Price up front, no call-out fee.

The tax line runs along the county boundary

This is a border neighbourhood, and the border is worth money. New York State Publication 718, effective 1 March 2025, lists New York City at 8 7/8 percent — that is 8.875%, and all five boroughs report on that single line. Westchester, outside the cities the publication names separately, is listed at 8 3/8 percent.

It applies to more of the job than people expect. Tax Bulletin ST-40 states that a repair shop "must collect sales tax on the total charge for parts and labor for the repair services that you provide". So in New York the fitting labour is taxed as well as the tires — which is not true everywhere. The Texas Comptroller publishes the opposite position in terms: there is no sales tax on the labor to repair or replace a tire.

On top of the tax sits the state's waste tire management and recycling fee: $2.50 per new tire, separately stated on your invoice, $10.00 on a set of four (derived: 4 times $2.50). A tire service with a physical retail location in New York State may keep twenty-five cents per tire for administration; a purely mobile operator with no shopfront collects the full $2.50 and remits the full $2.50 — $1.00 of margin on a four-tire job that a shop keeps and a van does not (derived: 4 times $0.25, from the published retention rate).

We tell you that because it is the sort of structural difference a comparison page ought to state plainly rather than dress up.

Where we can work, in a neighbourhood that mostly has somewhere

Two proxies, both labelled, neither of them a driveway count — the American Community Survey has no such variable and New York City publishes no residential off-street parking figure we could reach:

  • Housing type. 32.8% of units are single-unit, detached or attached (derived: 19.4% plus 13.4%), and a further 19.5% are in two-unit buildings.
  • Commercial garages. 2 active NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection "Garage & Parking Lot" licences carry a 10466 address, rank 105 of the 156 ZIP strings holding at least one, out of 1,761 active licences citywide. Very few people here buy a space.

What we need at the address: level, paved, legal ground with clear room at one corner of the car. White Plains Road under the elevated line is not it. A driveway on one of the numbered east-west streets, or a legal kerb space on a residential block, usually is.

What the road is doing, and what we are not going to claim about it

10466 filed 1,103 Street Condition / Pothole requests over 2021 to 2025, rank 76 of the 224 non-null incident ZIP values in that window, and 294 in 2026 to 19 September, rank 101 of 205. The Bronx as a borough files 17.6 requests per 1,000 residents, against Staten Island's 47.3 and Manhattan's 16.0 (all derived by dividing each borough's five-year count by its ACS 2020-2024 population). That is a reporting rate, not a measurement of the road.

And a correction to a claim you will see on other tire pages about New York. This city does not have severe freeze-thaw. Central Park crosses freezing in both directions on roughly 48.0 days a year (derived: 65.6 days a year with a low at or below 32F minus 17.6 days that never rise above it, NOAA 1991-2020 normals), and counted directly from the daily record over the same thirty years it is 51.4. Chicago is about 79 on the same subtraction, Pittsburgh about 82 and Denver about 136. Of the four northern metros we have counted, New York is the mildest. Whatever is happening to New York's streets, it is not that the winters here are unusually savage.

New York checks tires. Texas stopped

Every vehicle registered in New York State is inspected once a year. 15 NYCRR 79.3(a) makes it annual, and 79.21(c) puts a measured tread check inside it: a rejection if "Any tire is worn to less than 2/32 of an inch of major tread design at the two worst adjacent points at which the gauge readings are obtained". For comparison, Texas abolished the non-commercial safety inspection on 1 January 2025 and has no tread figure in statute at all.

Two details that matter at this end of the Bronx. First, the regime attaches to registration rather than to use, so a car registered in another state and kept here is outside it; no source we could find measures how many of those there are, so we do not guess. Second, if you have just become a New York resident, 79.4(b) says an inspection certificate from another jurisdiction is accepted "until the expiration date of the out-of-state certificate, or one year from the date of New York registration, whichever occurs first."

On winter tires: New York State requires none. A literal search of the current text of Vehicle and Traffic Law 375 found the string "snow tire" zero times, and Part 79 names no winter tire category. The only dated winter rule is the stud window, lawful 16 October to 30 April.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. Fitting tires a customer bought elsewhere was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation alone, no balancing alone, no brakes, no emergency roadside. If your driveway is unpaved, sloped or too tight to work beside, we will tell you before dispatch.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each extra tire on the same visit, subject to on-site inspection, with no separate call-out fee. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, refit. If the damage is not repairable we tell you on the spot and you pay nothing for the repair.
