ZIP 11215 splits almost down the middle. 49.2% of households keep no vehicle and 44.3% keep exactly one. Two-car households are 4.8%. In a city where 55.3% of households have no car at all, this is the neighbourhood where the single family car is the normal case — and where there is nowhere obvious to put it.

11215 is one of the ZIPs we priced on 2026-09-20. The Tire Rack directory listed twenty installers against it, three of them mobile, and quoted each for the same job: four Michelin CrossClimate2 in 225/65R17 on a 2020 Toyota RAV4 AWD LE, sales tax excluded.

The fixed-shop range is the striking part. Across the seventeen fixed-shop rows in that listing the identical job ran from $98.00 at Bull's Auto Repair in 11236 to $280.00 at Pro 1 Tire Service in 11232 — a 2.86-fold spread inside one borough (derived: 280.00 divided by 98.00). Tire Pro NYC in 11203 quoted $120.00, Jimmy Rims & Tires in 11232 $140.00, Classic Cars and Tires in 11226 $160.00, Utica Tire Shop in 11234 $220.00, Emil's All Tire in 11229 $200.00.

On the mobile side, the third slot against 11215 was held by 106ST Mobile Tire Shop at $225.00. Against Manhattan 10025 the directory instead lists 106ST Mobile Tire Shop II at $244.00, a separate listing with a separate installer ID. We have no evidence they are the same business, so we treat them as two and never blend the totals.

Kerb space is the job

The housing mix tells you where the cars are not. 2.4% of units are one-unit detached and 11.0% one-unit attached, against 9.1% and 7.2% citywide. For off-street space the only published series is commercial: 14 active NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection "Garage & Parking Lot" licences carry an 11215 address, rank 41 of the 156 ZIP strings holding at least one, out of 1,761 citywide. That counts businesses, not bays. There is no Census variable for driveways and no city dataset that measures them, so we will not tell you what share of Park Slope has one.

What we need is fixed: level, paved, legal ground with room to work at one corner of the car. On Seventh Avenue at four in the afternoon that is not available; on a numbered street between Sixth and Eighth it usually is. The published requirement list a mobile fitter works to is short — "Level ground", "3ft perimeter", "Paved road" — and on a brownstone block the three-foot perimeter beside the wheel is what decides it.

Treat that as a reporting rate: it mixes how many holes there are with how ready the block is to call 311, and this is a block that calls.

Citywide the season is measurable and it is worth planning around. Averaged over 2021 to 2025, pothole requests climb from a November trough of 10,595 to a March peak of 27,070, which is 2.55 times the trough (derived: 27,070 divided by 10,595). February is the destructive month — 9.2 inches of snow in the 1991-2020 normals and 13.4 freeze-thaw crossings — and the complaints land a month later.

A rim strike is not usually a repairable event, and New York's inspection says so in its own language. 15 NYCRR 79.21(c) rejects a tire that "has visible bumps, bulges or knots indicating partial failure or separation of the tire structure", or one with "a cut in excess of one inch in any direction and deep enough the reach the body cords", or with "any portion of the ply or cord structure exposed". We will not patch any of those, on Prospect Park West or anywhere else.

The penalty, stated correctly

Vehicle and Traffic Law 375(35)(c) bars operating a vehicle on tires that do not meet the commissioner's standards, and the penalty under 375(32)(a) is a fine not exceeding $150, or up to thirty days, or both. Selling a non-conforming tire is the misdemeanour, under 375(35)(b). Driving on one is not, whatever you have read. We would rather be accurate about that than frighten you into a booking.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. Fitting tires bought elsewhere was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation on its own, no balancing on its own, no brakes, no emergency roadside. If the only space on your block is a hydrant zone or a bus stop, we are not the answer that day, and we will tell you before you pay.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each extra tire on the same visit, subject to on-site inspection. No separate call-out fee. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, refit. Not repairable, no repair charge.

• Can you work at the kerb on a numbered street? Usually, where it is legal and there is room at one corner. Ask us about the specific block.
• What about an ASP day? Fine either way. The suspension days are simply easier to hold a space on, which is our argument rather than a measured fact.
• I hit a hole on Ninth Street. Patch it? Only after it comes off and we look inside. Impact damage often shows on the inner liner and nowhere else.
