Denver DOTI's asset layer scores 434 street segments in Sunnyside, against 289 in Highland next door, and they average 68.6 on the city's pavement condition index. The best rates 93. The worst rates 23, the second lowest single segment of the eighteen Denver neighbourhoods we profiled. Only Highland's worst, at 10, is lower.

The layer publishes no survey date, so read it as a relative picture rather than as this week's road. But 23 sits a long way below the neighbourhood's own average of 68.6, and if that segment is on your block, you already know which one it is.

Houses, duplexes and small buildings, and not much else

Next door in Highland, 42.4% of homes are in buildings of twenty units or more. In Sunnyside it is 5.9%. Here 57.4% of units are single family detached, 19.2% single family attached, and 11.6% are in buildings of two to four units. That last share is the highest of the eighteen Denver neighbourhoods we profiled.

For us that means the car is at a house, beside a small building, or on the street in front of either. All three are easy. No residential permit area covers Sunnyside. Denver names 22 permit areas over 971 street segments in the whole city and none of them is here, so the kerb is free and unrestricted.

Wherever the car is, we need level, paved, legal ground with room at one corner of the car and the car out of the traffic lane. A gravel pad, a soft verge or a steep drive we will swap for the street.

Cars that stay, and cars that commute

Only 5.2% of Sunnyside households keep no car, about half the Denver share of 10.3%. 49.2% keep one, 32.5% keep two and 13.0% keep three or more. 48.0% of working residents drive alone, 6.1% carpool, 5.6% take transit and 35.6% work at home. Those who commute average 26.1 minutes, a little longer than Denver's 24.9.

So there are two kinds of car on a Sunnyside block. One leaves in the morning and comes back in the evening, and the easy slot for it is early, late or at the weekend. The other stays put while its owner works at home, and the easy slot for it is any weekday. Tell us which at booking.

What the rough segments do

Denver has no pothole count for Sunnyside. The neighbourhood field in its 311 data is empty on every row and the yearly archives stop at 2023. Council district 1, which includes Sunnyside, filed 2,191 street pothole requests over 2019 to 2023, sixth of Denver's eleven districts, and 358 alley pothole requests, third of the eleven.

A hard strike is not usually a repair. C.R.S. 42-4-228 lists "any bump, bulge, or knot affecting the tire structure" and "a break which exposes a tire body cord or is repaired with a boot or patch" among the conditions that make a tire unsafe in Colorado. If one of those cars goes up I-70 in winter, the rule changes. The Traction Law there, in force from 1 September to 31 May between Dotsero and Morrison, accepts tires only with at least three sixteenths of an inch of tread, and otherwise wants chains or an approved traction device. That is six thirty-seconds, three times the two thirty-seconds that C.R.S. 42-4-228 sets as the legal floor on a Sunnyside street. Traction Law tires has the detail.

Where we are not the right answer

We supply the tires we fit, so a set bought elsewhere is out. We withdrew that service on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation on its own, no balancing on its own, no brakes and no emergency roadside.

What it costs

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each additional tire in the same visit, with no separate call-out fee. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, a plug and patch to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where the car supports it, and the wheel back on. If the tire cannot be repaired safely, we tell you there and you are not charged for the repair.

When a tire has to be replaced, installation is $400 for one visit covering one to four tires, with mounting, balancing and disposal included and the tires priced on the same screen. A seasonal changeover is $350 for a set on its own wheels and $390 for loose tires. Off-season storage will be resold through a local partner at $150 a set per six-month season, but no Denver partner has yet cleared our checks, so it is not on sale here yet: how storage will work.
