Start with the tire
No account needed.
A run-flat is a tire with a sidewall stiff enough to carry the car for a limited distance with no air in it. That is the feature, and it is also the reason a run-flat is a harder object to deal with when it goes down: the car that has one usually has no spare, and the tire that did its job has usually destroyed itself doing it.
We come to where the car is parked, take the wheel off, take the tire off the rim and inspect it from the inside — which with a run-flat is the only way to know anything at all.
Why the inspection matters more on this tire than any other
An ordinary tire that has been driven flat looks obviously wrong. A run-flat that has been driven flat looks normal. That is the whole point of it. The reinforced sidewall hides the damage it took keeping you moving, and there is nothing on the outside to read.
New York's annual inspection criteria are written for what that damage becomes. 15 NYCRR 79.21(c) rejects a car if the tire "has visible bumps, bulges or knots indicating partial failure or separation of the tire structure", if it "has any portion of the ply or cord structure exposed", or if it has "a cut in excess of one inch in any direction and deep enough the reach the body cords." A separated run-flat sidewall is exactly that list.
So the honest position is this: a run-flat that has been run flat is usually finished, and the only way to find out is to take it off the rim and look. We will do that and tell you. We will not patch a tire whose structure we cannot vouch for, and neither should anyone else.
If the puncture is in the tread area, no wider than a quarter of an inch, the tire has not been driven on deflated and the inside of the tire is clean, a repair to the US Tire Manufacturers Association standard — plug and patch, tire off the wheel — is on the table. Plug versus patch is what that means in practice.
What New York's mobile fitters charge to touch one
This is one of the few places where the local market puts a published number on run-flats, and it is small enough to be worth quoting exactly. Each of the four mobile installers listed in the Tire Rack recommended-installer directory against New York City ZIPs on 2026-09-20 carries a "Run-Flat Service" line on its own rate card:
| Installer | Base | Published run-flat service |
|---|---|---|
| Tire Pro / Tire Pro-Go | Springfield Gardens, Queens 11413 | $5.00 |
| Mobile Tire Shop | Brooklyn 11203 | $5.00 |
| 106ST Mobile Tire Shop II | Corona, Queens 11368 | $5.00 |
| Warren's Mobile Tire Services | Woodhaven, Queens 11421 | Free |
Those are per-tire charges published alongside each installer's mount-and-balance rates, read on 2026-09-20 and quoted as the directory states them. They are not a repair price; the four installers are listed for fitting, and what they publish is the surcharge for handling a run-flat during a fit.
The other thing that table says is where these businesses are. All four are in Queens or Brooklyn. Across the eight mobile installer listings we found on 2026-09-20 across Tire Rack and SimpleTire, none is based in Manhattan, the Bronx or Staten Island. The spare problem, which is worse here
A car sold on run-flats often has no spare wheel, no jack and no space to put one. That is the trade the manufacturer made.
Two consequences in this city. First, if the run-flat is finished you are not putting anything on in its place; you need a tire brought to the car. Second, if your car does carry a temporary spare and you fit it, you have created a separate problem for the annual inspection: 79.21(c) rejects a tire whose "size designation is preceded by a 'T'". A temporary spare fails a New York inspection is the page for that, and flat tire with no spare and how far you can drive on a donut cover the rest.
EVs and run-flat tires is worth reading if the car is electric, because the load index is usually the binding constraint on what may be fitted.
What we will and will not do
We fit run-flats where the size is available locally. Sizes are the limit, not willingness.
We will not replace run-flats with standard tires unless you tell us you understand the vehicle may have no spare and no means of fitting one. That is not a formality. A standard tire on a car with no spare means the next puncture ends with a tow.
We will not repair a run-flat we cannot vouch for. If the inside of the tire says it has been run deflated, the answer is a new tire, and we will say so on the spot.
We supply the tires we fit. No customer-supplied tires, no used tires.
Where the van can work
Level, paved, legal ground with room to work at one corner of the car — the same requirement as any other job, and in this city the thing most likely to decide whether a booking happens. Tire service with no driveway covers the options, and the alternate-side calendar covers the days a parked car does not have to move. If we arrive and the space is not safe to work in, that visit is not charged.
We are not roadside assistance. A car stopped in a live lane needs a tow first, which for a run-flat owner is worth planning around before it happens. Available now in New York explains what a same-day booking actually gets you.
Our price
A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each additional tire in the same visit, run-flat or not. No separate call-out fee. If the tire turns out not to be repairable — which on a run-flat that has been driven deflated is the likely outcome — you are charged for the inspection and not for the repair, and you decide whether to replace.
Replacement tires are supplied and fitted at the same address in the same visit where the size is available. What tire repair costs in New York covers what the state adds to the invoice here, including sales tax on the fitting labour. Repair or replace, how many tires do I need, mixing tire brands and our New York service area.
Questions people ask
- Can a run-flat be repaired at all? Sometimes, under the same US Tire Manufacturers Association conditions as any other tire: tread area, no wider than a quarter of an inch, tire off the wheel, plug and patch together, and no evidence that it has been driven deflated. That last condition rules most of them out.
- How do you know if it was driven flat? From the inside. The reinforced sidewall hides it from the outside, which is exactly why we take the tire off the rim before saying anything.
- My car has no spare. What happens on the day? We bring the tire to the car. That is the service. If the size is not available locally we tell you before you book rather than after we arrive.
- Can I put normal tires on instead? Yes, if you confirm you understand the vehicle may have no spare and no jack. We will not make that swap silently.
- Do New York fitters charge extra for run-flats? The four mobile installers in the Tire Rack New York directory publish a run-flat service line: three at $5.00 and one free, read 2026-09-20. Ours is inside the price.
- Will a run-flat fail the state inspection? Not for being a run-flat. It fails on the same criteria as any tire: under 2/32 of an inch at the two worst adjacent points, exposed ply or cord, a cut over one inch reaching the body cords, or visible bumps, bulges or knots.
- Do I pay if you cannot repair it? You pay for the inspection, not for a repair that did not happen.
