EV and run-flat tires: what changes for a mobile visit

Electric vehicles wear tires faster, and run-flat tires have their own repair limits. What that means for a mobile tire replacement visit.

Your price online in minutes. No callback, no estimate visit.

Start with the tire

What do you need?

How many tires?

On the sidewall, or the sticker in the driver door jamb. Copy it exactly.

No account, no callback. The next screen asks about your car, then shows the price.

Electric vehicles and run-flat tires each come with their own quirks. Neither one stops us from doing the job at your location, but both change what we ask and what to expect.

Why EV tires wear differently

Electric vehicles tend to be heavier than comparable gas vehicles because of the battery pack, and that extra weight puts more load on the tires. Combined with the instant torque electric motors deliver, this is commonly reported to wear EV tires meaningfully faster than tires on a similar gas vehicle, with faster wear than a comparable gas car in public reporting. What that means for you

If you drive an EV, expect to be checking tread depth and requesting replacement somewhat more often than you might be used to from a gas vehicle. See When to replace tires for how to check. It also means the two-versus-four decision comes up more often on EVs, especially since if your EV is all-wheel drive, where tread-depth matching between old and new tires matters more.

What we ask for an EV visit

  • Confirmation of your EV's weight class if you know it, since heavier vehicles need appropriately rated tires
  • Whether your EV specifies a particular tire type, such as a low-rolling-resistance tire tuned for range, which some manufacturers do
  • Jack point locations, since some EVs have different or more sensitive lift points than gas vehicles due to underbody battery packs; if you know your manufacturer's specified jack points, tell us

Run-flat tires: repair limits you should know before you request replacement

Run-flat tires are designed to be driven a limited distance at low or zero pressure, which is useful in the moment but has a cost: driving a run-flat while significantly underinflated or fully flat can cause internal structural damage that is not visible from the outside, even to a trained inspector. Because of this, run-flat manufacturers vary in what they will repair, and a run-flat that was driven flat is often treated as needing replacement rather than repair, even if a puncture in the same spot on a standard tire might have been repairable. What that means for your request

If you are requesting replacement because a run-flat was driven while low or flat, tell us that in the request. We do not repair tires regardless (see Repair vs. replace a tire), but knowing the tire's history helps set expectations about whether the rest of the set needs attention too.

What we do not do

We do not repair run-flat tires, diagnose EV battery or drivetrain issues, or guarantee a specific tire model will match your EV manufacturer's original-equipment spec; if that matters to you, confirm the exact tire before ordering.

Questions people ask {#faq}

  • Do you need special equipment for EV tires? The mounting and balancing equipment is the same category as any vehicle; what differs is knowing the right jack points and any manufacturer-specified tire requirements.
  • Can you install a standard tire on a car that came with run-flats? Often yes, but check whether your vehicle has a spare; some run-flat-equipped vehicles ship without one, which changes your options if a tire fails away from home.
  • Will you tell me if my run-flat looks like it was driven flat? We will note visible signs, but confirming internal damage requires the kind of inspection a repair shop or the tire manufacturer would do, not something we assess for repair purposes since we do not repair tires.
  • Do EVs need TPMS resets more often? Not inherently more than other vehicles; the same TPMS considerations from a standard replacement apply.

Why book this way

  • Your price online in minutes. No callback, no estimate visit, no waiting for someone to get back to you. Typically the quickest way to book this service.
  • One all-in price before any contact. Of the national mobile tire services we read, only Tire Rack publishes an installation price; the others quote after you contact them or reach checkout (read 2026-09-16 and 2026-09-17).
  • One point of contact from your request to the finished job. We work with a local partner and answer for the result.
  • You pay only after the price and your booking are confirmed.
