Mobile tire service for EVs and run-flats: what to confirm

An EV or a run-flat tire does not have automatic approval for mobile service. The installer must confirm the vehicle's lifting procedure, tire fitment, equipment, and work location. For a run-flat that lost pressure, the driving history and inspection requirements also matter. Get those checks before ordering tires or accepting a visit.

EV describes a vehicle's power source. Run-flat describes a tire system. A vehicle can have one, both, or neither. Do not combine them into a single "special tire" checkbox.

EV check: approve the vehicle, not just the tire size

Send the exact year, model, trim, wheel option, and drivetrain. Include the tire-size photo packet and explain any wheel modifications.

For a model-specific example, Tesla's Model Y lifting instructions require designated lifting points and warn against lifting under the battery or side rails. This is a reason to check provider capability, not a DIY lifting procedure or a claim that every EV needs the same adapter.

Run-flat check: report what happened after pressure loss

Record the tire model, warning message, approximate distance and speed already driven after the warning, and any visible damage. If you do not know, say so.

Bridgestone's run-flat guidance says to follow the manufacturer's distance and speed limits. Do not treat an advertised limit for another tire as permission to keep driving yours.

Michelin's service guidance calls for a qualified internal inspection after low- or zero-pressure operation, even without visible damage. An exterior photo cannot settle repair eligibility. This page does not promise run-flat repair.

Ask the provider to name any part that needs a shop visit. A provider accepting a conventional tire job is not evidence that it can complete every EV or run-flat job.

Should you switch from run-flats to ordinary tires?

Do not make that choice solely to reduce the quote. Michelin advises professional guidance because vehicle systems and safety provisions can be affected. Discuss the manufacturer's requirements and the plan for a future flat before buying a replacement set.
