Mobile tire service in Pilsen, Chicago

Pilsen is the Lower West Side, community area 31, and it does not work from home. 18.7% of residents do, roughly half the rate in Lincoln Park or Lakeview, while 44.5% drive alone and 5.9% carpool. Transit at 21.4% beats working from home here, which is true in only three of the fourteen Chicago community areas we profiled.

The mileage is ordinary and the schedule is not

The average Pilsen household covers 9,008 vehicle miles a year, just under the citywide 9,081. 24.1% of households have no vehicle, 24.2% have two, and 4.6% have three or more. Mean commute is 29.8 minutes.

So this is not a low-car neighbourhood with lightly used cars. Street, not alley

What we need is the same on every job: ground that is legal, level and paved, with room to work at one corner of the car. Pilsen is flat. The practical question is whether the space is free and legal for the hour we are there. The damage calendar

Citywide, street pothole complaints peak in March at 58,454 and February through May carries 50.4% of the year's total. CDOT's own repair record follows: of 260,883 potholes filled in 2026 up to 18 September, 70.2% were completed between February and May. The median wait from a request to a patched block in 2026 was 5.5 days, with 58.2% done inside a week, but the ninetieth percentile was 34 days. Most blocks are quick. Some wait over a month, and your tires are on the road in the meantime.

A rim strike usually does not leave anything visible in the tread. Under 625 ILCS 5/12-405 a tire is unsafe if it carries any bulge, knot or separation, or a cut deep enough to expose a ply or cord. Those are replacements. A nail in the tread is often not. Repair or replace sets out the line, and tire losing air with no nail covers the slow leak with nothing in it.

Illinois has no periodic safety inspection for an ordinary passenger car. Under 625 ILCS 5/13-101 nobody checks your tread on a schedule. The emissions test does not look at tires. That means the only person watching your tread here is you, and the legal floor to drive on is 2/32 of an inch.

If the damage turns out not to be repairable, we tell you on the spot and you are not charged for the repair.

Questions people ask

• Can you come before 7 a.m. or after 6? Say so at booking and we will tell you what is available. The point of the service is that the car does not have to leave.
• Nobody inspects my tires in Illinois. How do I know when they are done? 2/32 of an inch is the legal floor to drive on, and the wear bars in the grooves show it. A tire below 3/32 cannot legally be sold here at all.
• I hit a pothole and the wheel looks fine but the tire bulges. Replacement. A bulge means the structure inside has let go.
• Do you check pressures as well? Yes, to the figure on the door-frame placard: the tire pressure placard.
