Start with the tire
No account needed.
One tire that is always a little low, that you top up every couple of weeks, that sets the warning light off on cold mornings and clears by lunchtime. It is an easy fault to ignore, because diagnosing it properly needs the tire off the wheel and almost nobody does that for a tire that is not flat yet.
We come to where the car is parked, take the tire off the rim and find it. Your price is online in minutes. No hidden fees, no callback, no estimate visit, and no separate call-out fee.
First, rule out the weather
A tire that reads low in January and fine in July may not be leaking at all. Air pressure falls as air temperature falls, and Chicago gives it plenty of room to fall.
NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for Chicago O'Hare record 121.8 days a year with a minimum temperature at or below 32 F, and 42.7 days a year when the maximum never rises above freezing at all. The January normal high is 31.0 F and the January normal low is 16.5 F. A tire set to the placard pressure on a mild autumn afternoon will read meaningfully lower on a January morning without a single molecule having escaped.
So check it properly before you assume the worst. Measure cold, before the car has been driven, against the figure on the door placard rather than the number moulded into the tire sidewall. What the tire pressure placard tells you explains why those two numbers are different and which one is yours.
If it is still going down week on week after a correct cold reading, it is a leak.
What is usually leaking
Four things, in roughly the order we find them.
The valve stem. Rubber stems perish and crack at the base. A stem is cheap and the failure is common. It is also invisible while the wheel is on the car.
The bead seat. This is the machined lip where the tire seals against the rim. Corrosion there lets air weep out slowly all round the wheel, with nothing to see anywhere on the tire. Chicago stages 425,000 tons of road salt for a winter season across more than 9,400 lane miles, which is the environment those wheels live in.
The wheel itself. A cracked or distorted alloy leaks with the tire in perfect condition. Impact damage does this without leaving a mark on the tread.
A puncture you have not found. Small objects seal themselves well enough to lose a few psi a week rather than to go flat. They only show up in a water bath with the tire off the rim.
Tire losing air with no nail in it goes through the same list with what each one sounds and looks like.
Nobody is going to catch this for you
Illinois has no periodic safety inspection for an ordinary private car. 625 ILCS 5/13-101 lists the vehicle classes that must be submitted to a safety test, and a privately owned passenger car is not on it. There is no annual appointment at which a stranger measures your tread and pokes at your valve stems.
That is why slow leaks run for months here. They fail nothing. They just run the tire underinflated, which wears the shoulders and heats the casing.
What we can and cannot do about it
If the cause is a repairable tread puncture, we repair it: tread area only, no wider than a quarter of an inch, tire off the wheel, plug and patch together, which is the US Tire Manufacturers Association standard. If it is a valve stem, we replace it. If it is bead corrosion or a damaged wheel, we tell you plainly, because that is a wheel problem and not a tire problem.
We also measure the tread while the tire is off, and Illinois draws two lines worth knowing. Under 625 ILCS 5/12-405(d)(5) a tire is unsafe below 2/32 of an inch. Under 12-405(e)(2) nobody may sell, lease or offer a tire below 3/32. A leak in a tire already close to that is not worth chasing. Repair or replace a tire covers the call, and what mobile tire replacement costs covers the alternative.
If you run a separate winter set, this is also the moment to sort out where the other four live. See tire storage and our Chicago service area.
Our price: $145
A mobile puncture repair on one tire is $145 with us. That is the price, not an estimate and not a starting figure. It covers the call-out, taking the wheel off, demounting and inspecting the tire from the inside, a plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remounting, rebalancing, a TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, and refitting. If the damage turns out not to be repairable, we tell you on the spot and you are not charged for the repair.
The only national mobile service that publishes a repair price at all is GoMobile Tires, at $175 (read 2026-09-20).
Questions people ask
- My light comes on every cold morning and goes off later. Is that a leak? Not necessarily. Air pressure drops with temperature, and Chicago O'Hare normals include 121.8 days a year with a freezing low. Set the pressure cold against the door placard and watch it over two weeks before concluding anything.
- Can you find a slow leak without taking the tire off? Not reliably. A bead seat leak, a stem leak and a sealed puncture all look identical with the wheel on the car. The tire has to come off the rim.
- Is a leaking valve stem a repair or a replacement? A replacement, and a small one. The stem is a part, not a patch, and we tell you the price before fitting it rather than after.
- What if the leak is the wheel and not the tire? We say so. We do not sell wheels and we will not patch around a cracked rim. You get the diagnosis and the inspection charge, and no repair you did not need.
- Does an underinflated tire actually matter in winter? Yes. Running under the placard pressure wears the shoulders and heats the casing, and 625 ILCS 5/12-405(d) treats a tire with exposed cord, a bulge or a separation as unsafe to drive on.
