Start with the tire
No account needed.
A run-flat is built to be driven on with no air in it, which is useful once and misleading afterwards. The reinforced sidewall that got you home is the part that takes the damage, and none of it shows from outside. The tire looks normal, and the only honest answer comes from taking it off the wheel.
We do that where the car is parked in Chicago. Your price is online in minutes, with no hidden fees, no callback, no estimate visit and no separate call-out fee.
Why a run-flat needs the full inspection, not a look
The repair rules are the ones that apply to every tire, from the US Tire Manufacturers Association: tread area only, nothing wider than a quarter of an inch, the tire off the wheel so the inner liner can be inspected, and a plug and a patch fitted together. Run-flats add two things on top.
First, the reinforcement. A run-flat carries a stiffened sidewall designed to hold the car up for a limited distance at a limited speed with no air in it. Exceed either and the reinforcement is cooked, while the tire still looks like a tire.
Second, the manufacturer. Whether a specific run-flat may be repaired at all is a question for the company that made it, on top of the standard. We check both, and if the answer is no we say so rather than patching it and hoping.
So if you drove on it flat, tell us how far and how fast. That answer changes the likely outcome more than anything else you can give us.
The spare you probably do not have
Cars delivered on run-flats often ship without a spare wheel, because the tire was meant to be the spare. That makes a flat a bigger event than it looks: no fifteen minute fix in a parking space, and a choice between a tow and a technician who comes to the car.
It also sharpens the replacement decision. We fit run-flats where the size is available locally, and we will not put standard tires on a car built for run-flats unless you tell us you understand the vehicle may then have no spare of any kind. That is a real trade, to be made deliberately. Find your tire size shows where to read what the car calls for.
Two Illinois rules that catch run-flat owners
The 3/32 rule. Run-flat sizes are thinner on the ground than standard ones, and the temptation when a size is hard to source is a part-worn tire. Illinois closes that door. 625 ILCS 5/12-405(e)(2) makes it unlawful to sell, lease or offer a tire with less than 3/32 of an inch of tread groove, and 12-405(e)(1) bars mounting an unsafe tire for highway use. Separately, 12-405(d)(5) deems a tire unsafe to drive below 2/32. We do not supply used tires anyway.
Studs are out, all year. 625 ILCS 5/12-401 bars any block, stud, flange, cleat, ridge, lug or projection of metal or wood projecting beyond the tread. The only exceptions are rural letter carriers under contract to the postal service while actually delivering mail, and holders of a disability or veterans plate resident in an unincorporated area driving on county or township highways, both only between 15 November and 1 April. Neither reaches a driver inside the city. The same section permits tire chains of reasonable proportion where snow or ice makes a vehicle likely to skid. Chains are the legal traction device in Illinois. Studs are not.
The weight line the city draws
Run-flats tend to come on heavier cars, and Chicago prices its vehicle sticker by weight. The Office of the City Clerk's rates from 1 January 2026 are $105.18 a year for a Passenger sticker, covering a curb weight of 4,500 lb or less with a payload under 2,500 lb, and $167.07 for Large Passenger at 4,501 lb and above. Same street, $61.89 apart, decided by one number. Worth checking your curb weight if you never have.
What happens at the visit
The wheel comes off, the tire comes off the rim, the liner and the sidewall reinforcement are inspected, and you get a straight answer. If it is repairable we repair it, remount, rebalance that wheel, reset the TPMS where the vehicle supports it at the roadside, and set the pressures to the door placard. If it is not, the inspection is charged and the repair is not. Repair or replace a tire covers the decision, what mobile tire replacement costs covers the alternative, and our Chicago service area covers where we go.
Our price: $145
A mobile puncture repair on one tire is $145 with us. That is the price, not an estimate and not a starting figure. It covers the call-out, taking the wheel off, demounting and inspecting the tire from the inside, a plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remounting, rebalancing, a TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, and refitting. If the damage turns out not to be repairable, we tell you on the spot and you are not charged for the repair.
The only national mobile service that publishes a repair price at all is GoMobile Tires, at $175 (read 2026-09-20).
Questions people ask
- Can a run-flat be repaired at all? Sometimes. It has to pass the same US Tire Manufacturers Association test as any tire, and the tire's manufacturer has to permit repair. Both are checked with the tire off the wheel.
- I drove twenty miles on it flat. Is it finished? Probably, but the inspection decides. Run-flats are rated for a limited distance at a limited speed, and past that the reinforced sidewall is damaged internally with nothing visible outside.
- Can I just fit normal tires instead? We will do it, but only once you confirm you understand the car may then have no spare and no run-flat capability. It is a deliberate trade, not a default.
- Are studded winter tires an option in Chicago? No. 625 ILCS 5/12-401 prohibits studs, with narrow exceptions that do not reach a city driver. Chains of reasonable proportion are permitted when snow or ice makes skidding likely.
- Do you charge extra to come out to a run-flat? No. There is no separate call-out fee, and if the space is not safe to work in the visit is not charged.
