43.2% of Hyde Park households have no vehicle, and 89.7% have one car or none. 30.4% of residents walk or bike to work, which of the fourteen Chicago community areas we profiled is tied with the Loop for the highest share. Only 20.9% drive alone. The mean commute is 25.3 minutes.
This is a neighbourhood where the car is genuinely optional for the working week and completely necessary for everything else. We supply tires and fit them where that car is parked, in Hyde Park and across Chicago. The price is online in minutes, no call-out fee, no estimate visit.
A car that sits still is a car with tire problems
The average Hyde Park household covers 5,545 vehicle miles a year against 9,081 citywide. Low use is not low risk. At O'Hare the 1991 to 2020 NOAA normals record 121.8 days a year with a low at or below 32 F and 42.7 days that never rise above freezing. A car parked outside through that loses pressure, ages its valves and seats its beads badly, all without a nail anywhere.
The most common call from a neighbourhood like this is a tire that was fine in October and flat in February. Tire losing air with no nail covers what it usually turns out to be. If the car has not moved since it went down, leave it: a flat in the driveway explains why driving on it is what turns a repair into a replacement.
The housing stock is unusual, and it changes where we work
51.7% of Hyde Park units sit in buildings of twenty or more, 20.4% in five to nine unit buildings, 10.1% single-family attached and 4.9% single-family detached. Two-unit buildings are 0.9%, lower than any of the fourteen areas we profiled except the Loop at 0.2%. The Chicago two-flat, with its pad off the alley, is close to absent here.
The Census does not record whether any household has a garage or off-street space, and the city publishes no parking-pad data, so we will not put a figure on Hyde Park parking. We ask instead. What the van needs is fixed: legal ground, level and paved, with room to work at one corner of the car. A surface lot behind a courtyard building is ideal. A ramped deck under a tower usually is not.
The roads are in better shape than most of the city
Hyde Park filed 2,638 street pothole complaints to 311 across 2019 to 2025, and 255 alley complaints. For scale across all 77 community areas, the highest street count is the Near West Side at 13,214 and the lowest is Oakland at 479. Hyde Park sits well down that list.
That does not make the damage rarer for the car it happens to. Citywide the complaint curve peaks in March, with February through May carrying 50.4% of the year, so a Hyde Park tire is most likely to meet a hole in late winter, the same window as everywhere else. A rim strike that leaves a bulge, knot or separation makes the tire unsafe under 625 ILCS 5/12-405, whatever it looks like from outside. Repair or replace covers the judgement.
Nobody is checking your tread on a schedule
Illinois runs no periodic safety inspection for a privately owned passenger car. 625 ILCS 5/13-101 lists the vehicle classes that must be submitted for a safety test and an ordinary commuter car is not among them. The biennial emissions test looks at the emissions system, not the tires. The legal floor to drive on is 2/32 of an inch of tread depth, and a tire below 3/32 cannot lawfully be sold here at all.
What we do not do
We supply the tires we fit, so a set bought elsewhere is out. No alignment, no rotation alone, no balancing alone, no brakes, and no emergency roadside. Some Hyde Park addresses are towers with no ground-level space we can use. That is a real limit and we will say so before you pay rather than after.
Our price: $145
A mobile puncture repair on one tire is $145 with us. That is the price, not an estimate and not a starting figure. It covers the call-out, taking the wheel off, demounting and inspecting the tire from the inside, a plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remounting, rebalancing, a TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, and refitting. If the damage turns out not to be repairable, we tell you on the spot and you are not charged for the repair.
The only national mobile service that publishes a repair price at all is GoMobile Tires, at $175 (read 2026-09-20).
Questions people ask
- My building has a parking deck. Can you work in it? Sometimes. It needs headroom, level ground, room at one corner of the car, and the building's agreement. Tell us which deck and we will check.
- The car has not been driven since November. Then start with pressures against the door-frame placard: the tire pressure placard.
- I only drive at weekends. Do I still need new tires? Age and pressure damage tires as surely as mileage does, and nobody in Illinois inspects them for you.
- Do you charge for the visit on top of the tires? No. It is inside the price shown online: mobile tire replacement cost.
- How do I find the right size? From the same door-frame placard, not the tire currently fitted, which may be the wrong size already.
- Can you store a second set for me? That is a separate service, booked on its own.
