Bronzeville is not one statistical place. The city splits it between Douglas, community area 35, and Grand Boulevard, community area 38, and on the measures that matter to this job the two halves are not alike.

In Douglas, 46.1% of households have no vehicle. In Grand Boulevard, 29.3% do. Douglas has 75.8% of its housing in buildings of twenty units or more; Grand Boulevard has 24.5%. That is a 16.8-point gap on car ownership and a 51.3-point gap on building type, across a boundary you can walk over.

We supply tires and fit them where the car is standing, in both halves and across Chicago. The price is online in minutes. No call-out fee, no callback, no estimate visit.

Grand Boulevard drives more than the city average

Grand Boulevard households cover 9,305 vehicle miles a year, above the citywide 9,081, and 51.4% of them own exactly one car. 45.2% of residents drive alone to work. Douglas is lower on both counts, at 6,228 miles and 41.3% driving alone, with a 32.1 minute mean commute.

A household with one car and a 9,300-mile year is precisely the customer a fixed shop serves badly. There is no second vehicle to run errands in while the first one waits its turn on a lift. That is the argument for coming to the car, and it is stronger in the Grand Boulevard half.

Quiet roads by Chicago standards

Rank all 77 community areas by street pothole complaints to 311 over 2019 to 2025 and Bronzeville sits low: Douglas 1,232 and Grand Boulevard 1,550, against the Near West Side at 13,214 at the top and Oakland at 479 at the bottom.

The alley picture is more striking. Douglas filed 76 alley pothole complaints over the same seven years, among the very lowest of all 77 areas, where the bottom of that ranking is Riverdale at 9. Grand Boulevard filed 368. Chicago runs about 1,900 miles of public alleys citywide and 311 gives them a request type of their own, but the complaint traffic from this part of the South Side is thin.

Read that carefully. A low complaint count is a low complaint count. It is not a measure of alley mileage, road condition or reporting behaviour, and no per-neighbourhood alley mileage is published. What it does tell us is that the surface here is less of the story than it is in Logan Square or West Town, and access is more of it.

What we need to do the job

The same everywhere: ground that is legal, level and paved, with room to work at one corner of the car. Bronzeville is flat, so slope is rarely the problem.

The problem is which kind of address you have. Three quarters of Douglas housing is in buildings of twenty or more units, and a tower usually means shared parking with rules about who may work in it. Grand Boulevard is 28.9% five to nine unit buildings, 21.2% three and four unit, 11.6% single-family detached, which more often means a space behind the building. Nobody publishes how many homes here have off-street parking. The Census carries no garage variable at all, so we ask at booking rather than assuming.

Winter and the ban

The overnight parking ban covers 107 miles of arterial streets, 3 a.m. to 7 a.m., 1 December to 1 April, enforced regardless of snow. A separate ban covers another 500 miles once two inches lie, at any hour. Being caught costs a minimum $150 tow, a $60 ticket and $25 a day of storage, and the car goes to a city pound. The city publishes the map of which streets are covered.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit, so a set bought elsewhere is out. No alignment, no rotation alone, no balancing alone, no brakes, no roadside rescue.

Our price: $145

A mobile puncture repair on one tire is $145 with us. That is the price, not an estimate and not a starting figure. It covers the call-out, taking the wheel off, demounting and inspecting the tire from the inside, a plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remounting, rebalancing, a TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, and refitting. If the damage turns out not to be repairable, we tell you on the spot and you are not charged for the repair.

The only national mobile service that publishes a repair price at all is GoMobile Tires, at $175 (read 2026-09-20).

Questions people ask

  • I live in a high-rise with a shared lot. Often workable, with the building's agreement and level ground clear of traffic. Tell us the lot at booking.
  • Can you work in the alley? Yes where the alley is passable and level and the van does not block it. Describe the surface and we will judge it.
  • I hit a hole on King Drive and the tire has a bulge. Replacement. Under Illinois law a bulge, knot or separation makes a tire unsafe outright.
  • The tire is going down slowly with nothing in it. Common on a car that sits. See tire losing air with no nail.
  • Is the call-out extra? No. The visit sits inside the price you see: mobile tire replacement cost.
  • Do I need to match all four? Not always. It turns on how worn the others are: repair or replace.
