Albany Park keeps cars. Only 17.9% of households here have no vehicle, against 39.5% in Lakeview, 36.8% in Rogers Park and 31.6% in Lincoln Park. 24.8% have two and 6.8% have three or more. The average household covers 9,566 vehicle miles a year, above the citywide 9,081.

It also shares them. 9.1% of residents carpool to work, the highest carpool share of the fourteen Chicago community areas we profiled, alongside 45.9% who drive alone. Only 16.4% work from home, so transit at 19.1% still beats remote work here, which is true in only three of those fourteen areas.

We supply tires and fit them where the car is parked, in Albany Park and across Chicago. Price online in minutes, no call-out fee, no estimate visit.

A shared car cannot sit in a shop queue

A carpool is a schedule other people depend on. So is a two-car household where both cars are working cars. The half day a fixed shop asks for is not a half day of inconvenience here, it is somebody else's ride to work.

That is the practical case for a booked visit at the kerb or behind the building. The car does not move. The work comes to it, in a slot you picked.

The oldest housing stock of the areas we profiled

The median Albany Park home was built in 1931, older than any of the other thirteen community areas we looked at. 21.5% of units are single-family detached, 20.2% are in five to nine unit buildings, 19.0% in three and four unit buildings, 17.3% two-unit, and 12.2% in buildings of twenty or more. 43.7% of units are owner-occupied.

None of that tells you how many homes have off-street parking, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The American Community Survey carries no garage or off-street parking variable, and there is no city dataset of pads or private spaces, so no honest figure exists for any Chicago neighbourhood. We ask you at booking where the car will actually be.

What we need never changes: legal ground, level and paved, with room to work at one corner of the car. Albany Park is flat. The blocker, when there is one, is width.

The alleys here are busy

Albany Park filed 2,119 alley pothole complaints to 311 across 2019 to 2025 against 6,728 street pothole complaints. Chicago carries about 1,900 miles of public alleys and 311 keeps a separate request type for them, which is why those numbers can be read apart.

Alley damage has its own calendar. Citywide, street pothole complaints peak in March, while alley complaints peak in April and stay near that level into high summer: July alley complaints run at 78% of the April peak, where July street complaints fall to 52% of March. Repair effort follows the street curve, not the alley one. Of 260,883 potholes CDOT filled in 2026 up to 18 September, 70.2% were completed between February and May, and fill volume dropped by about seventy per cent between May and July.

The upshot for a car parked off an alley here is simple. The surface you drive over twice a day is at its worst when the crews have moved on.

A hole taken at speed rarely leaves anything visible in the tread. Under 625 ILCS 5/12-405 a tire is unsafe if it carries any bulge, knot or separation, or a cut deep enough to expose a ply or cord, and none of those are repairable. Repair or replace covers the difference, and tire losing air with no nail covers the slower version.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit, so tires you bought elsewhere are out. No alignment, no rotation alone, no balancing alone, no brakes, no emergency roadside. If your alley is too narrow to work in without blocking it, we will say so before you pay.

Our price: $145

A mobile puncture repair on one tire is $145 with us. That is the price, not an estimate and not a starting figure. It covers the call-out, taking the wheel off, demounting and inspecting the tire from the inside, a plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remounting, rebalancing, a TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, and refitting. If the damage turns out not to be repairable, we tell you on the spot and you are not charged for the repair.

The only national mobile service that publishes a repair price at all is GoMobile Tires, at $175 (read 2026-09-20).

Questions people ask

  • Can you work behind the building? Usually. The alley has to be level, passable and wide enough that the van is not sealing it off.
  • Both cars need tires. Can you do them in one visit? Say so at booking so the slot is long enough and the right sizes are on the van.
  • I carpool and cannot be without the car on a weekday. That is what the booked slot is for. Pick a time and the car stays where it is.
  • The alley wrecked my sidewall. A cut that exposes cord, or any bulge, is a replacement under Illinois law. There is no safe patch for it.
  • What is the price to come out? There is no separate call-out charge: mobile tire replacement cost.
  • Which size do I need? The door-frame placard is the authority, not the tire currently on the car: finding your tire size.
