Mobile tire service on the Southside, Windsor Forest and the Abercorn corridor

Two of the seventeen installers in Tire Rack's Savannah directory have a 31406 address, and both publish a full rate card. Pep Boys 0129 at 8702 Abercorn St charges $27.50 a tire to mount and balance a 17-inch 65-series tire, with no disposal fee and a shop fee of 9.99% of install cost. Valiants Racing at 130 Douglas St charges $40.00 a tire, $3.00 a tire disposal and no shop fee. Both were read on 2026-09-20.

What those cards mean, and what they do not

Those are prices to mount tires you bought elsewhere, the way Tire Rack's directory quotes every installer. We no longer do that; we supply the tire and fit it in the same visit. So the cards are context, not a like-for-like comparison with ours.

For context on the mobile side: exactly one of the seventeen installers in the same directory is mobile, GoMobile Tires, listed at a Garden City address, and it charges a $100.00 mobile service fee per visit, $30.00 a tire to mount and balance, $10.00 a tire for a TPMS rebuild kit and $8.00 a tire disposal. Tire Rack's own worked quote for four Michelin CrossClimate2 in 225/65R17 on a 2020 Toyota RAV4 AWD LE comes to $292.00, before tax. Chatham County's sales tax rate is 7% on the Department of Revenue's chart.

The strongest competitor for a nail in the tread is not a van at all. Discount Tire, which runs a store at 11301 Abercorn St in 31419, says on its own site "we offer free flat tire repairs at every single one of our 1,200-plus stores!" Detached houses on flat ground

67.8% of the housing units in 31406 are one-unit detached, against 55.9% for the City of Savannah, and 59.7% are owner-occupied. The median home is in the 1970s build band and only 2.8% predates 1940. That detached share is a proxy for private parking, not a count: the Census has no driveway variable and neither the city nor SAGIS publishes one. The ground is flat, like all of Savannah; the city itself names "the flat terrain, low elevations and tidal influence from the Atlantic Ocean" as the cause of its flooding.

What we need is level, paved ground with room at one corner of the car, and on a Windsor Forest street that is usually the easy part. The City's residential parking ordinance limits large vehicles parked beside residential lots and makes an exception for a commercial vehicle whose "equipment on such vehicles is being used to perform the special operations for which it was designed". We quote it rather than interpret it for your street.

A car-first corridor

79.7% of working residents drive alone, rank 4 of the fourteen Savannah-area ZIPs we profiled. 3.2% take public transport, the second-highest share of the fourteen after West Savannah's 31415. 39.3% of households keep two vehicles and 17.6% keep three or more. The mean commute is 22.6 minutes (derived from the Census aggregate travel-time table).

There is no Savannah pothole or 311 dataset to tell you about these streets. We enumerated every dataset in SAGIS, the regional open-data portal, and none is a service-request or pavement layer. So this page has no road-damage count.

Summer is the hard season

NOAA's daily record at Savannah/Hilton Head International averages 16.8 thunder days in July alone (2015 to 2025). Over 2006 to 2024 it averaged 49.0 days a year that were both 90F or hotter and at least 70% mean relative humidity. Georgia's tread floor is 2/32 of an inch "in all major grooves" under O.C.G.A. 40-8-74(e)(1), and the same subsection separately requires tires to be free from "bumps, bulges, or separations". Georgia's tread law covers it.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each extra tire on the same visit, subject to inspection on site. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, plug and patch to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where supported, refit. Not repairable, no repair charge. Fitting new tires we supply is $400 a visit for one to four tires, mounting, balancing and disposal included; the tires are priced on top. No separate call-out fee.
