Mobile tire service in Georgetown, Berwick, Southbridge and the Ogeechee Road corridor

ZIP 31419 is the biggest piece of this metro. 57,077 people live here in 22,651 occupied units — the largest population of the fourteen Savannah-area ZIP Code Tabulation Areas we pulled, and larger than the entire City of Pooler, which the same Census release puts at 28,466. It is 1990s and 2000s subdivision country in the metro's south-west, along GA-204 and Ogeechee Road toward the Ogeechee River, split between the City of Savannah and unincorporated Chatham County.

56.2% of units are owner-occupied. 55.6% are one-unit detached, 20.8% sit in buildings of five to nineteen units — the second highest share of the fourteen, behind 31407 — and 5.7% are mobile homes. The median unit falls in the 1990s band and 0.9% of the housing predates 1940.

75.4% of working residents drive alone, 11.9% carpool, 9.8% work at home, and the mean commute is 24.2 minutes. 6.7% of households keep no vehicle and 16.8% keep three or more.

Two of the seventeen recommended installers Tire Rack lists for ZIP 31401 sit inside this ZIP, both on Abercorn Street: a Discount Tire at 11301 and a Firestone Complete Auto Care at 11508. That matters because of one sentence Discount Tire publishes on its own services page, read on 2026-09-20: "we offer free flat tire repairs at every single one of our 1,200-plus stores!"

So if you live in Georgetown or Berwick, have a nail in a tire, can drive the car safely and have the morning free, there is a free repair a short drive from you and our answer is $145. We are not going to pretend otherwise, and we are not going to invent a reason the free one is bad.

What we sell against it is narrow and real: nobody drives the damaged tire anywhere, nobody waits in a queue, and nobody arranges a tow if the tire will not hold air at all. The same page is equally clear about the other half: "Does America's Tire offer mobile tire repair near me? We don't offer mobile tire repair at this time."

And the company's mobile installation programme does not reach Georgia. We read its complete published store list on 2026-09-20: eight states, 84 stores — Arizona 19, Florida 4, Illinois 14, Minnesota 3, Missouri 2, North Carolina 1, South Carolina 2, Texas 39 — and Georgia appears in none of them. The two nearest participating stores are both in the Charlotte suburbs of South Carolina. Where it does run, the published price is "AS LOW AS $50 Extra", and the page states that this "is in addition to the regular Installation & Life of Tire Maintenance fee in cart."

The rate cards for those two Abercorn Street shops, from the same directory: Discount Tire at $25.00 a tire to mount and balance with a $4.00 disposal fee and no percentage shop fee; Firestone at $23.00 a tire with $5.00 disposal and a shop fee of 10% of install cost. One basis note so the comparison is honest — Discount Tire quotes by wheel diameter rather than sidewall aspect ratio, so $25.00 is its 17-inch rate and is not strictly like-for-like against the fifteen installers that quote by aspect ratio.

Where the van works in a 1990s subdivision

A fifth of the housing here is in buildings of five to nineteen units, which in this part of the metro means garden apartments with shared parking rather than towers with decks. Those lots are usually good ground: level, paved and legal. Tire Rack's published requirements — the same test every mobile fitter applies — are "a flat, paved surface with 6 feet of clearance around your vehicle", "A minimum of 10 feet of vertical clearance", and the service "can meet you at your residence or a local parking lot" but "cannot install in open traffic".

A newer subdivision driveway is easier still. The usual obstacle is another car: 16.8% of households here keep three or more vehicles and a two-car drive with three cars on it is a shuffle we would rather you do before the slot than during it.

We cannot tell you what share of homes here have off-street parking. The American Community Survey does not measure driveways or garages and nobody local publishes a count. The detached share is a proxy and we are labelling it as one.

Why a summer appointment slips, in measured numbers

Savannah's storms and its heat are the same season, which is unusual. From NOAA's 1991–2020 monthly normals at Savannah/Hilton Head International, August is the wettest month of the year at 6.56 inches, and June through September carry 22.69 of the annual 47.96 normal inches. Counted from the station's own thunder observations over 2015–2025, Savannah averages 68.8 thunder days a year, with 16.8 of them in July alone — more than one July day in two.

That is a scheduling fact rather than a weather fact. If you are booking between June and September, the earlier part of the day is the part that holds. We will tell you if we have to move a slot rather than work a car half-finished in a storm.

Heat matters to the tire rather than the appointment. Cold inflation pressure is the number on your door placard, and "cold" means before the car has been driven, not before the afternoon warms up: the tire pressure placard.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. A set bought elsewhere is out as of 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation alone, no balancing alone, no brakes, no emergency roadside.

Our price: $145

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each additional tire in the same visit, with no separate call-out fee. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, plug and patch fitted to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where the car supports it, refit. Repair is subject to inspection on site; if it is not repairable we say so at the car and you are not charged for the repair.

Georgia's tread floor, for what it is worth while the tire is off: "not less than 2/32 inch tread measurable in all major grooves" under O.C.G.A. 40-8-74(e)(1), plus separate requirements that the tire be free of cuts exposing body cord and free of bumps, bulges or separations.
