The Watts neighbourhood council has 27.1% of its 44.2 centreline miles of street rated Poor in the city's own StreetsLA inventory, cut dated June 2026. That is rank 12 of the 100 named councils in the layer, against 19.3% citywide. Next door, the CANNDU council has 23.7% of its 50.8 miles rated Poor, rank 23. (The 100 includes the catch-all "Unincorporated Neighborhood" label the layer carries.)

That is the street a lot of cars use. In ZIP 90002, 28.4% of households keep three or more vehicles, 29.4% keep two and 29.8% keep one. We supply the tires and fit them where the car is parked, here and across Los Angeles. One price up front, no separate call-out fee.

What the grade does and does not tell you

Los Angeles publishes no pothole count. Its 311 system carries no road-surface request type in any year from 2019 to 2025, so the segment grade is the only street-condition measure the city offers, and it is a good one: a grade on every segment.

What it does not tell you is why. It is not frost. None of the four Los Angeles weather stations in NOAA's 1991-2020 normals records a single day a year that stays below freezing. We have found no source that explains the city's poor pavement, and we will not invent one. What a hole does to a tire is the same everywhere: a bulge or a cut through to the cord is a replacement, not a patch. A bulge in the sidewall shows what to look for.

Old cars, long drives

The California DMV recorded 29,539 light-duty vehicles registered in 90002 at 31 December 2025. 80.6% were model year 2020 or older, which is six model years or more in 2026, and 40.3% sat in the DMV's oldest bucket, before 2012. Of the seventeen Los Angeles ZIPs in our research whose registration data is usable, only 90044 in South Los Angeles has an older fleet on that measure, at 80.9%. Battery-electric cars are 1.4% of 90002's registrations, the lowest share of the eighteen ZIPs we profiled, against 5.9% statewide.

The drives are long too. The mean commute is 33.8 minutes (derived from the Census aggregate travel-time table), second longest of the eighteen behind 90044's 34.0. 68.3% drive alone and 12.8% carpool; 5.4% work from home. An old tire on a car that covers real distance every day is the combination worth checking. Read the four-digit date code on the sidewall, which 49 CFR 574.5 fixes as week then year: when a Los Angeles tire is too old.

California's line is 1/32, and it is not the only line

The tread minimum for a passenger car in California is 1/32 of an inch, under Vehicle Code 27465(b)(1), measured "in any two adjacent grooves at any location of the tire". That is half the 2/32 most people quote. A tire can be above it and still be unlawful: Vehicle Code 24002 bars operating any vehicle "in an unsafe condition" that "presents an immediate safety hazard". A tire showing cord at 3/32 can be exactly that. California's 1/32 tread law has both.

Houses with room around the car

56.8% of housing units in 90002 are one-unit detached, the second-highest single-family share of the eighteen ZIPs we profiled after Pacoima. 44.4% of the stock was built in 1949 or earlier. The ground is flat. That is a proxy, not a parking count: the Census has no driveway variable, and in Los Angeles many old garages are now dwellings, so we do not claim a driveway share. What we need is level, paved ground with room at one corner of the car, and on a flat street of detached houses that is usually easy.

The honest competitor is free

The shop that matters most for a puncture here is not a van. America's Tire, which is what Discount Tire trades as in California, says on its own mobile installation page that it does not offer mobile repair, and adds: "we offer free flat tire repairs at every single one of our 1,200-plus stores!" If you can get the car to a store on a spare, that is cheaper than us. We come to you, which matters when the spare is flat too or there is no spare at all. Its California stores also run no mobile installation; California is not among the eight states on its participating list.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. Fitting tires bought elsewhere was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No used tires, no alignment, no rotation on its own, no balancing on its own, no brakes, no emergency roadside.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each extra tire on the same visit, subject to inspection on site. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, plug and patch to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where supported, refit. Not repairable, no repair charge. Fitting new tires we supply is $400 a visit for one to four tires, mounting, balancing and disposal included; the tires are priced on top. No separate call-out fee.
