Two facts about ZIP 90006 point in opposite directions, and between them they describe the work we actually get called out to here.

The roads are better than the city average. The Wilshire Center Koreatown neighbourhood council carries 50.5 centreline miles in the June 2026 StreetsLA inventory, of which 8.4 are rated Poor — 16.6%, rank 58 of the 100 named councils. Pico Union carries 32.5 miles with 4.8 Poor, which is 14.7% and rank 70. Both sit under the citywide figure of 1,266.3 Poor miles out of 6,575.0, or 19.3%.

The cars are older than the state average. Of the 27,532 light-duty vehicles registered in 90006 at 31 December 2025, 73.8% are model year 2020 or older, 51.2% are 2015 or older and 34.9% sit in the DMV's oldest bucket, before 2012. California as a whole is 72.1% of 29,658,134 at model year 2020 or older.

Good asphalt and old rubber is a repair market, not an impact market. We supply the tires and fit them where the car is parked, here and across Los Angeles. No call-out fee.

Pre-war lots, post-war car ownership

36.8% of the 21,822 housing units in 90006 were built in 1939 or earlier and 54.6% by 1959. In Los Angeles that means small lots and narrow kerbs laid out before two-car households existed, and 23.5% of the 27,509 working residents here take public transport — the highest transit share of the eighteen Los Angeles ZIP codes in our research, ahead of Downtown's 19.3%.

8.5% of units are one-unit detached and another 3.3% one-unit attached; 17.5% are in buildings of two to four and 32.0% in buildings of five to nineteen. We use that split because it is the only measure available — the American Community Survey has no garage or off-street-parking variable, and the city publishes no garage count, so anyone quoting you a driveway percentage for Koreatown has made it up.

The street-sweeping sign decides your slot

24.8% of the 19,709 households here keep no vehicle and 46.0% keep exactly one. That single car is usually at a kerb, and a kerb in this city is on a posted cycle.

In calendar 2025 the City of Los Angeles issued 2,036,629 parking citations. The single largest category was "NO PARK/STREET CLEAN" at 524,709, which is 25.8% of the year's total — more than red zone, more than expired meter, more than preferential parking. Our van parked beside your car for forty-five minutes sits inside the same posted window your car does.

So when you book, tell us your sweeping day, or send a photo of the sign on your block. We would rather move the slot by a day than meet you at a tow hook. On a street where nothing legal is available for long enough, a nearby lot or an office space works just as well: flat tire at work.

Legal tread in California is not what the penny test measures

This matters in a neighbourhood running old cars on a budget, so it is worth stating precisely.

California Vehicle Code 27465(b)(1) sets the passenger-car minimum at "One thirty-second (1/32) of an inch tread depth in any two adjacent grooves at any location of the tire". That is half the 2/32 rule that applies in most states, and it is exactly the depth the Lincoln-head penny test is designed to find. A car that fails the penny test in Los Angeles is not yet breaking California law.

Three things follow, and they are the useful part:

  1. The statute says "any two adjacent grooves", not every groove. One worn shoulder groove is not the violation on its own.
  2. 27465(c) says the measurement "shall not be made where tie bars, humps, or fillets are located" — so put the gauge in the groove beside a wear bar, not on top of one.
  3. Legal is not the same as safe, and the state knows it. CVC 24002(a) makes it unlawful to operate a vehicle "which is in an unsafe condition ... and which presents an immediate safety hazard", with no measurement required, and 17 CCR 95550(c)(14) defines an unsafe tire to include one that is unsafe by reason of age.

The limit also binds us. CVC 27465(a) bars a dealer or holder of a retail seller's permit from selling, offering, or installing on an axle a tire below that depth. We will not fit one, and that is the law rather than a policy.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. Fitting customer-supplied tires was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation alone, no balancing alone, no brakes, no emergency roadside.

Worth knowing before you pay anyone: America's Tire, which is the California trading name of Discount Tire, states on its own mobile-installation page that it repairs flats free "at every single one of our 1,200-plus stores" — and that same page's list of 84 participating mobile stores, across eight states, contains no California store at all. So in this city their van is not an option and their counter is free. If you can get the car to a store, that is a real alternative to paying us, and we would rather say so.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each additional tire on the same visit, subject to on-site inspection. No call-out fee. Wheel off, tire demounted and inspected from the inside, repair fitted to the industry method, remount, rebalance, TPMS reset where the car supports it, wheel back on. If it cannot be repaired safely we say so there and then, at no repair charge.

We come to you because the car does not move, or because moving it costs you a shift. That is the trade.
