The worst-paved neighbourhoods in Los Angeles are not where anyone expects, and two of the worst eight are here.

In StreetsLA's June 2026 inventory, which grades every segment of the city's 6,575.0 centreline miles, the Silver Lake neighbourhood council carries 65.0 centreline miles of which 25.2 are rated Poor — 38.8%, rank 3 of the 100 named neighbourhood councils. Echo Park carries 69.6 miles with 20.6 Poor, which is 29.6% and rank 8. Citywide the figure is 1,266.3 Poor miles out of 6,575.0, or 19.3%.

That is roughly twice the city rate in a part of town people move to. We supply the tires and fit them where the car is parked, here and across Los Angeles. Price on screen, no call-out fee.

What is not causing it

Every other city we work in has the same story about broken asphalt: water gets into a crack, freezes overnight, lifts the slab, and by March the street is open. That story does not apply in Los Angeles and the normals say so flatly.

The 1991–2020 NOAA normal for nights at or below 32F is 0.0 at both Los Angeles International and Downtown/USC. Days with a maximum at or below 32F — the condition that actually drives a freeze-thaw cycle through pavement — are 0.0 at all four Los Angeles stations. Annual snowfall at LAX is 0.0 inches, with 0.0 days a year of a tenth of an inch or more.

No freeze, no snow, and 19.3% of the city's centreline miles rated Poor anyway, rising to 38.8% in Silver Lake. We will state that contrast and stop there, because we found no source that establishes the cause and we are not going to guess at one on a page you might act on.

There is also no pothole count for this neighbourhood, or for any other. MyLA311's service-request releases from 2019 to 2025 carry twelve request types — bulky items, graffiti, illegal dumping, appliances, encampments, e-waste, dead animals, single and multiple streetlight issues, other, water waste and feedback — and none of them is about the road surface. Anybody quoting you a pothole figure for Echo Park did not get it from the city.

Hills, chocks, and where the van will and will not park

This is one of the few genuinely hilly stretches of a mostly flat city — the reservoir, Sunset Junction, the streets that climb out of Angelino Heights. We will not give you a gradient number, because no per-neighbourhood slope dataset exists for Los Angeles and a fake one helps nobody.

What matters operationally is simple. We need level, paved, legal ground with room to work at one corner of the car. On a pitched street the level part is the constraint, not the room: a car on a noticeable cross-slope gets chocked and, if the slope is too much, we move it or we move the appointment. If your block is steep, the flat corner two streets down is a better booking than your own door.

Book around the sweeping sign too. Of 2,036,629 parking citations issued citywide in 2025, 524,709 were for street cleaning — 25.8%, the largest single category. Send a photo of the sign on your block and we will fit the slot to it.

Old houses, old streets, cars that sit

46.4% of the 29,274 housing units in 90026 were built in 1939 or earlier and 60.2% by 1959 — the oldest fabric of the eighteen Los Angeles ZIP codes in our research. 29.9% are one-unit detached and 8.1% one-unit attached; there is no garage variable in the Census and we will not invent a driveway share from it.

27.1% of the 35,740 working residents work from home and 51.3% drive alone. Mean travel time to work is 31.2 minutes, derived from an ACS aggregate of 813,475 travel minutes over the 26,042 workers who did not work at home.

Of the 34,402 light-duty vehicles registered in 90026 at 31 December 2025, 72.4% are model year 2020 or older and 30.0% predate 2012; battery-electric is 6.0%, or 2,063 vehicles, against 5.9% statewide. Cars that stand still on streets that are coming apart is an unusual combination, and it produces two distinct jobs: a slow leak nobody noticed, and impact damage that only shows on the inside of the tire.

A rim strike is not automatically a repair

We take the tire off and look at the inner liner. Impact damage frequently shows there and nowhere else, which is why an inspection is part of the job rather than a formality.

Some things end the conversation. A bulge in the sidewall is not repairable by anyone, on any street. Nor is a break through to the cord. CVC 24002(a) makes it unlawful to operate a vehicle "which is in an unsafe condition ... and which presents an immediate safety hazard", and that section needs no tread gauge to bite — a tire can be well above California's legal depth and still be finished.

What we do not do

We supply the tires we fit. Fitting customer-supplied tires was withdrawn on 2026-09-20. No alignment, no rotation alone, no balancing alone, no brakes, no emergency roadside. If your only parking is a steep kerb with nothing level within reach, we will tell you rather than turn up and fail.

Our price

A mobile puncture repair is $145 for the first tire and $50 for each additional tire on the same visit, subject to on-site inspection. No call-out fee. If the tire cannot be repaired safely, we say so on the spot and there is no repair charge.
