14.3% of working residents in ZIP 75227 carpool to work, against 11.8% across Dallas, and 75.3% drive alone. The mean commute is 30.0 minutes, against 25.7 citywide (derived from ACS table B08013, aggregate travel time over workers who did not work at home). Only 7.8% work from home.

Put those together and you get the reason a shop visit is expensive here even when the labour is cheap. A carpool is two commutes riding on one set of tires. Take that car off the road for a morning and two people lose a half-hour drive each way, not one.

The cars here are not spares

25.6% of households in 75227 keep three vehicles or more and 31.5% keep two, but only 5.7% keep none. This is not a neighbourhood where a household can shrug and take the train: 1.7% of working residents use public transport, and 0.4% walk or cycle.

So the useful question at booking is not whether you can spare the car. It is when the car is at the address and somebody is there. Heat is the second season, and it is not the pothole season

Two different things damage tires in Dallas and they happen at different times of year.

Road damage complaints run in spring. Across the city, pothole requests summed over 2021 to 2025 peak in May at 4,063 and fall to 2,331 in October, with March through June carrying 41.5% of the year. 75227 filed 1,300 of them across those five years, rank 7 of the 68 ZIP strings in the city's 311 address field.

Heat runs later and harder. The 1991-2020 normals at DFW are 14.6 days a year at or above 100°F and 95.0 at or above 90°F, and August is the peak month with 8.0 normal days at or above 100°F against July's 4.8. August's normal daily maximum is 96.1°F. 2026 has been well beyond normal: through 17 September, DFW had recorded 52 days at or above 100°F.

That matters to a tire through pressure. The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association puts it at "one to two pounds for every 10 degrees of temperature change", in both directions, and insists the reading be taken cold — "parked for at least three hours". Michelin gives the same one to two psi per 10°F from the loss side. A tire set at the kerb in February is not at the same pressure in August, and a soft tire in Dallas heat is the blowout mechanism: USTMA states that "Under inflated tires generate excessive heat build-up and stress, causing irregular wear and internal damage."

Do not wait for the dashboard to tell you. USTMA again: TPMS warns "when tires are 25% under inflated", and "For many vehicles, this warning may be too late to prevent damage."

Questions people ask

• Can you come before the carpool leaves? Pick the earliest slot on screen and tell us the car has to be out by a fixed time. We would rather move the booking than hold up two commutes.
• My pressure light comes on in the morning and goes off by lunchtime. That is temperature doing what it does, one to two psi per 10°F. Set it cold against the placard: the tire pressure placard.
