Start with the tire
No account needed.
A tire that went down while the car sat parked is the most repairable kind there is, because nothing has been driven on it. Leave it where it is, do not move the car, and book a visit. We take the wheel off in the driveway, inspect the tire from the inside and repair it if it meets the standard. The price is on screen before you book.
The one thing that turns this from a cheap morning into an expensive one is driving the car to a shop. A few hundred yards on a flat folds the sidewall under the rim, tears the inner liner and can damage the wheel itself.
First, is it a driveway at all
A lot of Pittsburgh does not have one. Shadyside's compact street layout prevents most houses from having garages. Parking in the South Side Flats is among the tightest in the city, because narrow streets and dense building leave almost no empty kerb. Bloomfield, Lawrenceville and the Strip are row house and converted warehouse districts where the car lives at the kerb.
So tell us what the space actually is. What we need is the same everywhere: legal, level, paved, with room to work around one corner of the car. That can be a driveway in Brookline or Mt. Lebanon, a permit space outside a Bloomfield rowhouse, or a workplace lot, all inside our Pittsburgh area. It cannot be a live traffic lane.
Grade matters more here than in most cities
A car has to be jacked, and a jack on a slope is how people get hurt. Pittsburgh has more of this problem than anywhere: the South Side Slopes run from 791 feet to 1,174 feet of elevation across about 0.7 square miles, and Canton Avenue in Beechview is claimed to carry a 37 percent grade over a 21 foot section, the steepest officially recorded public street in the United States.
If your driveway pitches hard toward the street, say so when you book. Sometimes the answer is to work on the flat apron at the bottom rather than where the car stands.
Holding the space for the van
In a permit neighbourhood this is a real step, not an afterthought. The city's Residential Parking Permit programme costs $40 per vehicle per programme year and an Annual Visitor Parking Pass is $10 per address, which is the sensible thing to have if anyone ever comes to work on your car. Street cleaning enforcement runs on posted days by neighbourhood and resumed on 1 April in 2025, so check your street's day before booking a morning slot.
And yes, the parking chair works, socially. It has no legal standing in Pittsburgh: it is legal to put the chair out and legal for someone else to move it. It is still the most reliable way to keep a cleared space open until we arrive.
What we look at, in the driveway
The tread. Most punctures land here and most tread punctures are repairable.
The sidewall. A cut, bulge or bubble means the tire is finished. No patch holds on a sidewall.
The bead, where the tire meets the rim. Grime or a visible gap points at a seal failure rather than a puncture, which is common on older alloy wheels after a salted winter and does not need a new tire.
The valve stem. Cheapest failure on the car, and the usual answer when there is no nail to find.
The repair standard comes from the US Tire Manufacturers Association: tread area only, nothing wider than a quarter of an inch, tire off the wheel so the liner can be inspected, and both a plug and a patch. A plug pushed in from outside is not a repair. Flat tire in the driveway is the longer general version, and repair or replace covers the decision.
If you need the car before we get there
The spare will move it. A temporary spare is usually limited to around 50 mph and a short distance and runs at a much higher pressure than a road tire, so read the label on it. Many cars built in the last decade carry a sealant kit instead, and sealant fixes nothing bigger than a pinhole. Avoid taking a temporary spare through the Fort Pitt or Squirrel Hill tunnels at rush hour.
Our price: $145
A mobile puncture repair on one tire is $145 with us. That is the price, not an estimate and not a starting figure. It covers the call-out, taking the wheel off, demounting and inspecting the tire from the inside, a plug and patch fitted the way the tire industry requires, remounting, rebalancing, a TPMS reset where the vehicle supports it, and refitting. If the damage turns out not to be repairable, we tell you on the spot and you are not charged for the repair.
The only national mobile service that publishes a repair price at all is GoMobile Tires, at $175 (read 2026-09-20).
Questions people ask
- The tire went flat overnight and the car has not moved. Is that repairable? Usually yes. A tire that deflated while parked has not been damaged by being driven on, which is the biggest single factor in whether it can be repaired.
- My driveway is steep. Can you still work on it? Often, but tell us before the visit. The car has to be jacked, and that needs level ground. Sometimes the fix is to work at the bottom of the drive rather than at the top.
- I have no driveway. Can you work at the kerb? Yes, where the space is legal, level and paved with room around one corner of the car. In a permit neighbourhood, a $10 annual visitor pass for your address makes this much easier.
- Should I put a parking chair out to hold the spot? It has no legal force in Pittsburgh, but it is normal practice and it works. Anyone is equally free to move it.
- Can I just pump it up and drive to a shop? No. Air in a punctured tire is a countdown, and driving on a soft tire is what turns a repair into a replacement.
- What pressure should it go back to? The figure on the door placard, not the one moulded into the tire. Find your placard. We set it before we leave.
