Start with the tire
No account needed.
Six original tire sizes, two of them in the 35-inch class, and a spare on the tailgate that is a real tire rather than a token. Wranglers also get modified more than most, and a lifted Jeep on bigger rubber has a placard that describes a vehicle which no longer exists.
The sizes Jeep fitted
The JL generation runs from 2018. Sizes and pressures here are confirmed on the 2023 car.
- 245/75R17 on Sport S I4, Sport S V6, Unlimited Sport, Unlimited Sport S, Freedom and Unlimited Freedom. This is the volume metric fitment.
- LT255/75R17 on Willys, Willys Sport, Unlimited Willys, Unlimited Willys Sport and Unlimited Willys 4xe.
- LT285/70R17 on Rubicon, Unlimited Rubicon, Unlimited Rubicon 4xe and Unlimited Rubicon 392.
- 255/70R18 on Unlimited Sahara, Unlimited Sahara V6, Unlimited Sahara Altitude and Unlimited Sport Altitude.
- 275/55R20 on Unlimited High Altitude, Unlimited High Altitude 4xe and Unlimited Sahara 4xe.
- LT315/70R17 on any trim with the Xtreme Recon Tire Package, and on Unlimited High Tide.
The split that matters is metric against LT-metric rather than diameter. LT tires are built for load and run at a different pressure, and the Xtreme Recon package can appear on several trims, so the badge does not settle the size. See finding your tire size.
Where the Wrangler puts its placard
The driver-side B-pillar, or the rear edge of the driver's door. The Stellantis owner's manual says the proper cold tire inflation pressure is listed on the driver's side B-pillar or the rear edge of the driver's side door, and illustrates both.
Open the driver's door and check the rear edge of the door itself first, then the upright post beside your shoulder. One of the two has it. If the Jeep has been lifted or re-tyred, that label no longer describes what is fitted. Our tire pressure placard guide lists which makes use which.
How to read it once you find it
- Cold pressure, front.
- Cold pressure, rear. Equal to the front on this vehicle.
- The original tire size, which tells you whether the car left the factory on metric or LT-metric rubber.
- The spare. On most vehicles that line is a temporary tire at a much higher figure. On a Wrangler it is usually a full-size match for the road tires.
Cold means parked at least three hours, or driven under about a mile. Pressure rises as a tire warms, so a reading taken after a drive is high.
The verified pressures
Two independent pressure sources agree exactly on four fitments:
- 245/75R17: 36 psi front and rear.
- 255/70R18: 36 psi front and rear.
- LT255/75R17: 37 psi front and rear.
- LT285/70R17: 37 psi front and rear.
One source also gives 275/55R20 at 36 and LT315/70R17 at 37. Those fit the pattern but rest on a single source.
So the rule here is metric 36, LT-metric 37, front and rear equal. One psi between the two families is a small step, and it is worth saying plainly, because fitters carry habits across from full-size pickups where the gap between metric and LT is far wider. Do not bring that habit to a Wrangler.
Replacing fewer than four, and the spare
No Stellantis tire-matching tolerance was found in our sources, so there is no numeric limit to quote. Part-time four-wheel drive is normally driven in two-wheel drive on the road, which relaxes the matching constraint compared with a full-time all-wheel-drive car, but that is reasoning rather than a cited manufacturer rule, and we present it as such.
The spare is the real story. A full-size matching spare lives on the tailgate, which means two things. It makes a genuine spare swap possible at the roadside instead of a limp home on a space-saver. And because it matches, it is usually in the rotation, so it has tread on it and it counts as a fifth tire. If you replace four and leave the fifth alone, the set stops being matched the next time the spare comes into rotation. See how many tires and mixing tire brands. For a tread puncture, repair against replace is the first question.
What changes on a mobile Wrangler fitting
- Direct TPMS, with a sensor in each road wheel, so the job ends with a reset or a relearn.
- Six OE fitments, two of them 35-inch class. We confirm what is on the vehicle before loading anything.
- The tailgate spare is a fifth road tire. Tell us if you want it included, because it changes the count.
- A lifted or re-tyred Jeep needs its pressures discussed rather than read off a sticker that no longer applies.
What we do
We supply the tires and fit them where the vehicle is parked. Pressure is set to the figure on your own placard where the tires still match it, the TPMS is reset or relearned where the vehicle supports it, and the old tires leave with us. Pricing is on our mobile tire replacement page.
Questions people ask
- What psi does a Wrangler take? 36 front and rear on the metric fitments, 37 on the LT-metric. Four of the six sizes are corroborated by two sources.
- Where is the placard? The driver-side B-pillar or the rear edge of the driver's door. Stellantis names both and illustrates both.
- Should I count the spare as a fifth tire? On a Wrangler, usually yes. It matches the road tires and it tends to be in the rotation.
- My Jeep is lifted and on 35s. What pressure? Not the one on the sticker. That figure was chosen for the original tires, so talk to us before setting it.
- Do I have to replace all four? No published Stellantis tolerance exists to quote, so we look at the other tires and tell you what we see.
