Jeep Compass tires

The Compass wants 35 psi at the front and 32 at the rear. Not on one fitment, on all four of them. That three psi split is corroborated by both of our pressure sources on every original tire size this car was sold with, which makes it the single most useful thing on this page.

Setting all four wheels to one number is wrong on every Compass. It is also what happens by default at a lot of tire bays, because a compressor gets set once and every wheel gets the same shot of air.

The sizes Jeep fitted

The MP generation runs from 2017 and was refreshed in 2022. Sizes and pressures here are confirmed on the 2023 car.

• 215/65R17 on Trailhawk.
• 225/60R17 on Sport and Latitude. This is the volume fitment.
• 225/55R18 on Altitude, Latitude Lux and Limited.
• 235/45R19 on Limited, High Altitude and Red Edition.

Look at the first two rows. The Trailhawk runs a narrower 215/65R17 on the same 17-inch rim diameter as the Sport and Latitude, so two Compasses on 17-inch wheels can need different tires. Limited appears on both the 18 and the 19, so the trim name does not settle the wheel either. Read the size off the sidewall. See finding your tire size.

Where the Compass puts its placard

The driver-side B-pillar, or the rear edge of the driver's door. The Stellantis owner's manual says the proper cold tire inflation pressure is listed on the driver's side B-pillar or the rear edge of the driver's side door, and it illustrates both a door placard and a B-pillar placard.

Open the driver's door, look at the rear edge of the door itself, and if it is bare, turn to the upright post beside your shoulder. That post is the B-pillar. Our tire pressure placard guide covers which makes print it where.

How to read it once you find it

1. Cold pressure, front. On this car, the higher of the two.
2. Cold pressure, rear. Three psi lower, and deliberately so.
3. The original tire size, which is one of four on this model line.
4. The spare, printed separately and normally at a much higher figure.

Cold means the car has been parked at least three hours, or driven under about a mile. Pressure rises as a tire warms, so a reading taken at the end of a drive is high and will tempt you into letting out air the tire needed.

The verified pressures

35 psi front, 32 psi rear, on every fitment. Two independent pressure sources agree exactly on all four OE sizes, front and rear.

That is unusual. Most front-to-rear splits in our records are one or two psi and rest on fewer sources. Here the gap is three psi and it is fully corroborated, so we will say it plainly: a Compass with all four tires at 35 is three psi over at the rear, and a Compass with all four at 32 is three under at the front. Neither is what the car was designed around, and the rear-over case is the one that wears the centre of the tread and makes the back end feel skittish on a wet roundabout.

Replacing fewer than four

All-wheel drive is optional on the Compass. No Stellantis tire-matching tolerance was found in our sources, and Tire Rack's per-manufacturer matching table does not cover Stellantis, so there is no numeric limit to quote and we will not invent one.

On a front-drive car, one or two tires is a normal job, and two new ones go on the rear axle. On an all-wheel-drive Compass with three well worn tires, matching all four is the safe course, and on a Trailhawk the tread pattern matters as much as the size. What changes on a mobile Compass fitting

• Direct TPMS, with a sensor in each road wheel, so the job ends with a reset or a relearn rather than a pressure check alone.
• Front and rear pressures differ by three psi on every fitment, so the axles get set separately rather than from one compressor setting.
• Four possible sizes, two of them on 17-inch rims. We confirm the size on the car rather than from the trim badge.
• The label may be on the pillar rather than the door edge, so both places get checked.
