Chevrolet Equinox tires

Two things matter on this car. The 2025 Equinox is an all-new generation and both of its tire sizes changed, so tires bought for a 2024 will not fit it. And GM publishes no cold inflation pressure for the Equinox anywhere off the vehicle, in any document we could reach. The only place that figure exists is the label on your B-pillar.

The sizes Chevrolet fitted

Second generation, 2019 to 2024:

• 225/65R17 102H on L, LS and LT
• 235/50R19 99H on the 19 inch LT build, the 2019 19 inch LS, Premier and RS

Third generation, from 2025:

• 235/65R17 104H on LT and ACTIV
• 235/55R19 101H on LT, LT Midnight Edition and RS

Both sizes moved at the generation change. The 17 inch went from 225/65R17 to 235/65R17 and the 19 inch from 235/50R19 to 235/55R19. They look interchangeable on paper and are not, so pre-2025 stock will not do for a 2025 car. Check the model year first, then the sidewall. See finding your tire size.

If a different wheel package has been fitted since the car was built, the tires on it now may not be the size the label names, which changes the correct pressure as well as the correct tire.

Where the Equinox hides its tire label

On the driver's side centre pillar. GM's wording in the Equinox owner's manual is that a vehicle-specific Tire and Loading Information label is attached to the center pillar, and it names the B-pillar in brackets. That is the upright post between the front and rear doors. Open the driver's door and look at the body of the car rather than at the door edge.

This one catches people because the general advice is wrong here. Discount Tire's own tire pressure guide, which we read the same day, says the placard is usually on the driver's door jamb. That is true of most cars and not of this one. GM puts it on the pillar across its range, as do Ram, Nissan, Subaru and Tesla.

Reading it, and why we quote no number

The label gives four things: the cold pressure for the front axle, the cold pressure for the rear, the original tire sizes and the spare. Cold means the car has been standing rather than driven, because a tire warms as it rolls and its pressure rises with it.

GM does not tabulate placard pressures anywhere in the Equinox owner's manual. The 2023 book's specifications table lists fluid capacities and wheel nut torque and no tire pressures at all, and every passage about pressure points back at the label on the car. The only pressure figure GM prints for this vehicle is 60 psi for the compact spare. No retailer lookup we checked published one either.

So there is nothing to quote, and that is not a gap in our research. It is GM declining to publish a number that depends on the build in front of you. Our tire pressure placard guide sets out why.

Replacing fewer than four

GM publishes no fewer-than-four rule specific to all-wheel-drive Equinoxes and no numeric tread-depth tolerance. Its warning is broader: mixing tires of different sizes, brands, tread patterns or types may cause loss of vehicle control, and using a different wheel or tire size can affect antilock braking, traction control, electronic stability control and all-wheel drive.

What changes on a mobile Equinox fitting

• Wheel nut torque is 140 N-m, which is 100 lb ft, from the 2023 owner's manual.
• Direct TPMS, with sensors in the wheels transmitting to a receiver in the car. The system has to be reset after a rotation, and GM warns that non-GM valve caps can damage the sensors and void that part of the warranty.
• GM asks for rust and dirt to be cleaned off the wheel mounting face at every wheel change, for a light grease on the inner diameter of the hub opening, and for no grease at all on the mounting surface, the conical seats or the nuts.
• On 2019 to 2024 cars the compact spare is kept at 60 psi and is excluded from tire rotation.
• On a 2025 car we do not yet know whether the spare is a compact wheel or an inflator kit, because the manual was not available. We check on arrival rather than assume.
• There is no published placard figure to pre-load into a job sheet, so we budget the time to read the B-pillar label when we get there.

Questions people ask

• Where is the tire pressure label on an Equinox? The B-pillar, the post between the doors. GM says centre pillar in the manual. It is not on the door edge, whatever the general guides say.
• What PSI should an Equinox run? Whatever your label says. GM publishes no figure for this car in any document we could reach, and we will not invent one.
• Will my 2024 tires fit a 2025? No. Both sizes changed with the new generation.
• Do I need new TPMS sensors? Only if one has failed. The sensors transfer with the wheels, and we check the telltale before leaving.
• Can you fit two tires? Yes, and they go on the rear axle. On an AWD car we look at the other two first.
